R55 bumper on R56

So last weekend the topic of exhaust systems came up during our meet and it was brought up to put on an R55 exhaust on the R56. Now I don't want to grind on the R56 bumper and I don't think it would look right molded so I thought I would see if the R55 rear bumper would fit on the R56. They look similar and it might need some modification. But how does this sound? And if anyone is good at photochop see if you can fit it. Also I know that the exhaust would probably cause a small power reduction with the bends and stuff but it would look sweet. Thanx in advance and the following pics belong to Dave5950 and T&CMCSa respectively.

Just a guess, but I don't think it would fit right.

If you look at the curves on the corners of the hatch on the R56, they don't look like they'd match up to those of the R55. Also that part looks a lot wider on the R55.

Quick PS, just what I thought. God, that WOULD look sweet. Maybe that's what I'll do to my MC.

Well I figured it would take a little modification to get it on but not that much. I will see if I can find a Clubman S rear bumper and see if I can line it up. The exhaust section will be the easier part cause it won't require a huge amount of modification.

The rear bumper and mid exit exhaust are two of my favorite parts of the car stylistically. That's obviously just my opinion and you should go with what you like regardless of it, but just make sure you aren't changing stuff just for the sake of changing stuff.

I always thought the same thing, and I've been waiting on the marketplace for a while for an S bumper so I can have my exhaust coming out the middle. But now that I see that, I think it would look awesome just to cut a new section in the left side of the bumper and have it that way. I think it looks sweet.

didnt see it mentioned, but... 2 places for license plates would look incredibly dumb. You would be better off modding a Justa-cooper's bumper for 2 exhaust spots or something...

I think the overhang from the rear wheel on the Clubman bumper is longer too--that'd require fairly significant modification.

Well my first inclination was to do the Just a Cooper bumper with a 3in exhaust tip but when I mention that one of the guys was like why don't you do the Clubman rear bumper with the 2 exits. He has a Clubman non S, I think that at the next meet I will see if he might be willing to do a fit test. There is a lot of stuff that I like about the MINI(zig, zag, and zug) and I am trying to customize mine to what to me would look the best. Though the center exiting exhaust looks sweet it kinda limits the overall look. Man I just love this car so much I want to make just wild.

It would be much easier to have the current bumper modified to the Dual (one each side) but getting the exhaust set up (without final tips) and then notching the bumper where it needs to be notched and fiberglass up the center exhaust port. Less than 4 hours worth of work plus paint. Now you have a unique Dual Tip (each side) MCS.

Here are just the first items I see different that would look bad if not fixed on the clubman bumper

1. sides are longer on the clubman by far (lots of work to cut them down and fiberglass the turn back in)
2. much wider opening for doors compare to hatch (lots fo work to fiberglass the narrower opening for the MCS hatch)
3. filling in the license plate area of the clubman bumper (lots of work)
4. mounting points are different (lots of work modifying back side of bumper to accommodate the MCS mounting points)
5. now to finish sanding and painting. close to 40-50 hours of work and we have not even taken on the exhaust yet.

It would look really sweet I just think the work involved would be a little much. Plus getting the hatch on the R56 won't line up with the hatch line on the R55 bumper.

40-50 might be a little over board but I want to see in person what kind of work the thing is I would have to fill in the center exhaust spot on the MCS bumper. It might not work it might work it just is a running idea right now.

Why dont u just buy a jcw rear bumper and cut twin exhaust outlets into the diffuser? That would probably be eaiser than molding a clubman bumper to fit.

I came here to say this. This JCW rear bumper includes a diffuser for both an S and a juastacooper. Have someone fab it up a bit to add an extra exhaust outlet and you're good to go. Plus it won't look stupid having 2 mounts for a license plate

And in the meantime you can still run the bumper with the S diffuser till you get a new exhaust.

Cool. Yeah I would probably get the exhaust first cause it is a little hard to work with and have the body molded around the exhaust
