Some Basic Questions

Hello all my name is Rob and i just recently got a 08 mini cooper and im in love with it but i do have a few basic questions all help is greatly appreciated

1. I lost the slide in part of the key i still have the fob and can do everything with the car but i need the actuall metal part how much would a replacement cost me about in CA? Is the dealer the only way to get one?

2. My mini was bought used it had everything i wanted except one thing which is white turn signals on miniusa.com theyre a 100$ option can i still get them? How much would it be? Where do i go? Will it cost more? Less?

3. Lastly, is 91 fuel the only way to go? will i lose MPGs over 89? I drive alot in the city so my mpg isnt that great in the first place.

Thanks in advance and hope to hear from some of you soon

1. The "slide in part" is a key that will open the door if the battery is dead. Its purpose is to allow you to get at the bonnet release so you can get to the battery. If you have one in the second key, do you really need it?

I have no idea what it would cost, nor whether it can be purcashed separately from a new fob. The fob is very expensive and must be programmed by a dealer. Any dealer should be able to tell you.

2. There are some threads here and in the Modifications: Interior/Exterior forum about changing to white turn signals. I don't recall the details. Don't mind having the egg yokes on my MCS.

3. Gas is a controversial subject here, as is oil. You can find a thread with a long argument about it. Some say 91+ only, others run lower grades. I'm in the 91+ only camp. There is less controversy (but still some) on the quality of gasoline. I stick with Shell, if I can. MINI strongly recommends only using top tier gasoline, and not to use anything with more than 10% ethanol.
