Just got home from the dealer. Both fuel sensors were replaced as being faulty. Also got my microfilter and brake fluid done. I declined the exhaust tip recall for now, I'll wait till these ones get a little more cruddy.

The interesting part is that I asked the service manager what maintenance history they had on the car. The sensors had been replaced 5000 miles ago!

8500 miles, fuel pump replaced
11,xxx miles, both fuel sensors replaced
16,xxx miles, both fuel sensors replaced.

Now I bought the car with just under 12k miles. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that the unfortunate original owner traded on a Honda after two fuel related failures!

 

I had the exact same thing happen to me...except in my case there was no found explanation. It was the first I'd driven the car, literally after filling up and leaving the dealership. 400 or so miles later she shuts off on a stretch of i-40 with the nearest gas station at like 100 miles haha. Luckily mini took care of it, but then when I got back home and took her into the dealership, two dealerships to be exact, they took apart and reassembled everything as many times as they could and found no logical explanation. Frustrating to say the least. After I'd put 20k or so on the odometer the gauge got much more accurate. But then again who really knows with 'carrots' and 'candy corns' deciding the fate of your car anyways.

I got a '08 MCS and that's never happened to me, but I guess it's something to lookout for now.
I get 230-250 miles per fill-up and I've (rather... my wife did) had the mileage counter go down to 0 mpg and the car still started up. But usually, we try not to let it go down below 10 miles.

As for Mini Roadside Assistance...
I had an experience with BMW Roadside Assistance (I know it's not the same... but it should be similar in the way it's run, I assume).
Like 6 years back when I had a 325i.
Forgot what happened to it, but the car wouldn't start.
Called BMW Roadside and they sent out a tow truck to my parking garage, towed it to the dealership and there was really no hassle on my part. Bill went directly to BMW for the tow truck.
I feel that restricted road excuse was total BS on Mini's part.
I would have asked to speak to their supervisor or something and ask what their definition of an unrestricted road was and yadda yadda.

 

I had 2 carrots left (the 2 red ones) and the nozzle stopped at 13.055 gallons.
The manual indicates that my tank is 13.2 gallons, but now I see that it must be about 14.3 gallons

 

I had driven about 5 city miles after 'two carrots' fuel warning.

ScanGauge called for 12.7 gallons to fill and it took 12.723 to do it.

I have, in the past, after driving too long (25+) on 'one carrot' filled it with 14.3 gallons and this was prior to ScanGauge install.

 

I had my fuel pump crack on me at about 700 miles in. I had at least 4 carrots left on the tank (220 from the 3rd fill up). The dealership claimed that the fuel tank was empty. Since getting the fuel pump replaced, I've been running 330 miles to 3 carrots at which point I refill to avoid fuel pump damage. I wonder if the sensors do not work well on cracked pumps or if the dealership was just trying for the simple solution and not look at the pump.

 

14.2 is about right. You have roughly 2-2.5 gallons left with the 2 red candies showing.
