No Mini for me, ended up getting a different car instead...

Thanks to all who gave helpful advice to me in my car-shopping quest. Although I still like the Mini, I ended up getting a unique opportunity to buy a different car for about the same money. A guy I know decided to sell his perfect 2006 Lancer Evolution IX with 39k miles and I couldn't resist. It was a little cheaper than an MCS and is a really awesome car. I picked it up last weekend and it is in beautiful shape.

I still like the Mini, but am going to enjoy the Evo for a while!

Thanks and best of luck!

you better attach a bucket to the bumper of that evo to catch all the parts when it breaks.

Every Evo that comes into my shop is ticking like a timebomb just waiting to explode

My boss had one, same generation in Black. 4 wheel drive and very fast. The only thing he complained about was the turbo lag.

Glad you got what you wanted!

Well I don't know how one goes from a MCS to a Mitsu Lancer but good luck and if this turns out not quite right we will be happy to welcome you back to MINIland.

Well, I wouldn't diss him for buying "just" a Lancer... it's an Evolution for goodness sakes! It is a superb and practical driver's car, and probably outperforms the MINI in nearly every test to man. At least he didn't settle for a Corolla S or something. Yikes!

Thanks guys. I love the Mini, but I couldn't resist getting a really nice Evo that is still under warranty for less money. The early models had some reliability problems, but the newer ones are very reliable from what I've heard and read.

I think the only thing the MINI can outperform an EVO on is gas mileage Great car, I wanted to get an EVO or an STI but the wife wanted the R32.

Congrats! I really like the Evo IX. However I don't care for its cheap interior and it feels like a tin can. But its an awesome performer.

True the interior does seem pretty cheap, but I bet in general they rattle less!

Overall they are nice cars, i had a VIII and really enjoyed the car. Does your car have the leather interior? that made the interior look very nice! The only thing i didn't like was how fast the stock advans wore... it was under 10000 for mine just normal street driving.
By the way i got a mini because it's steering was almost as quick as the evo.

Don't listen to the haters. The Evolution is an amazing car... I got the chance to drive a VIII and it's quite a visceral experience. Those older generations are more about raw performance than the newer (Evo X) models. Enjoy!

I wish I could afford an EVO!! Enjoy your car...perhaps you saved enough on the deal to get a Mini, too?

I drive a Corolla S. But hopefully, that will be changing shortly.

I don't know what I was thinking...

I bet the Evo won't break as much as my MINI has, plus it's much more "tune-able." Every person I have known that's had one has completely totaled it within the first year.

Be safe and have fun!
