How do I reset my OBD? I have a 2007 MCS and it still says I average 25.5-25.7 mpg. Ill admit i push it when I get road rage because people cant drive but when I drive normal it doesn't go up =/. I shift at 3k and stay within 3-2.5 rpm.

Do you think its because of carbon build up? Or I havent changed my oil.

My car has 50,221 miles on it.

Why are people NOT checking their mileage with math? The computer is not accurate, I have tested it against hard numbers and it just does not tell you the whole story. Best way to test is to go to your favorite gas station on an empty tank and fill it. Set your odometer to ZERO, and (if you have an ODOMETER on a GPS system do the same this CAN BE more accurate unless you lose reception often). Drive around town for however long it takes you to empty your tank, say a week or so. Then go back to the same gas station and record your milage, pump your tank till it is full again and record how many gallons you used to fill it. I do this every time I fill up. Now try this on the next trip you take on the highway…

Miles Driven / Gallons Used = MPG

Dave, Thanks for the input.. Completely agree with what you said...
I guess the question now becomes, how do you explain "lugging" to someone who's new to manual transmissions.
The whole thread began with the discussion of why doesn't low engine rpm always mean better fuel efficiency.. and in plain terms, the answer is that sometimes you're "lugging" the engine.. I see that as 'demanding the wrong torque at the wrong engine rpm'.. that's kinda what I was going for with that map.. but you may be right about the throttled vs non-throttled engine.. hadn't taken that into consideration

lugging

I think that lugging can be defined as running the engine at a high enough load at low engine revs that you feel a significant vibration throughout the vehicle. This noise and/or vibration is caused by the engine torque being transmitted (resonating) to the vehicle structure through the motor mounts. What is acceptable is pretty subjective. If it feels bad or annoying adjust your max load at low revs limit.

My old Engineering director called lugging "the sound of good fuel economy".
