Beat a 2009 550 HP Bentley with my JCW
Well, Comming doew I-95 I hooked up with a beautiful Bentley and we stayed together from the St. Augistine exit all the way to South Daytona. I just stayed in back of him all the way. We ran at 80/85mph. He got off at the South Daytona exit and I followed him to Sams club. He probably thought I was a "CAR JACKER" or something. We both pulled into the gas pumps. We talked about cars and he was checking his gas milage on paper. He was getting 16.2 mpg on his trip from Jacksonville. We compared MPG and I got 32.7mpg on my trip up to Gainesville and back. """I WON"" whick means I beat a Bentely in MPG only. He did tell me he once ownd a Mini when he was in school back in the 70's. We were finished with our visit and we both headed seperate ways. I nice ride and a very nice visit with a car guy.

I didn't either "BUT"
I would not have thought of it either. I would think having a car that cost about $175,000 a person would not think about gas consumption. I don't really care myself but it seems I like checking every time I get gas. I have a friend with a Porshe911 that checks his milage too.He is a millionaire. If I did not see Mr. Bentley checking at the gas pump we would not even think of talking about it. He seemed to be a guy that liked cars like I do. He actually did "NOT" sneer at my Mini Cooper and he knew what a JCW model was. He was buying his gas at Sams club so I guess he was just a regular guy with an expensive car. With over 500 horsepower his insurance is probably more a year then my JCW cost new.

nice story. Being descended from Brits, however, I still get a little rankled over the germans taking over two of England's most heritage-laden motoring monikers. Mini was tough enough to swallow at first.
however, my most recent MCS shared the delivery truck with a $370K Rolls, so I guess globalism is good?

MINI - - - > BMW
Rolls Royce - - - > BMW
Bentley - - - > Volkswagen
and more...
MG and Lotus are owned by Malaysian or Chinese companies; Jaguar and Land Rover by Tata in India.
Triumph is long gone, as are Rover and most of the other smaller ones (Sunbeam, Healey, etc, etc.).
Sad, really, if you are/were a fan of the old British "marques".

Is "LUCAS ELECTRICS" still in business????
Now days no matter where the cars are put together all of the parts come from all over the world. Most of the parts for many different cars are all built in the same plants. These parts plants are in many different country's.
I'm really happy that BMW bought MINI because if they did not there would not be a 2009 Mini Cooper JCW that I really like a lot. They took a great car and brought it into the 21st century. fifty years is a very good run for any car to be as well loved as a Mini Cooper. Because of BMW I would think the Mini will go at least another fifty years or more.
If anyone is to blame for giving the English a bad RAP. It would be "Lucas Electrics" also known as "THE PRINCE of DARKNESS"
