Ouch! How'd that happen, and is everyone else okay? Glad to see you're alive, and the car did it's job.

Any idea on cost/damage amount?

glad you are alright!

And people tell me that my car is unsafe because of the size. I guess I need to show them this.

Go ahead and show em the pics. As much as I am torn apart by the fact that my car is wrecked, I will proudly declare the safety of that car.

Glad to see you walk away OKAY.

Safety design in the car works very well. My little question is:

R56 Mini comes with "cheaply built" armrests on both doors. While it is annoying on a daily basis, my understand is on a collision like this, these armrests can easily detach and deform to absorb the impact in a side collision. Does it help in your case?

I dont know to be honest and I didnt really pay attention to what was protecting me. I was so shook up after the accident I just wanted to get out of the car.

Ouch.

Glad you walked away from that without major injury! So sorry it happened, though.

I was hit by a Mitsubishi Gallant. We dont know the speed but I have a sneaking suspicion that she was doing well over the speed limit of 30.

That is nice to know that safety works!

I'm most of the time effing scared of those 15-18 year olds from my school... especially everyone is driving cars bought with oil money... and its texas :(

The crash rate is about 2 cars per day... thank god for Early release!

But I don't know how much longer til I get in wreck... My Mini S had near misses of people switching lanes and accelerating... almost rear ended me twice... One were so bad I wrote a police report because I almost understeered into an small entrance for a park... a near collision with Tahoo vs X3.....

In most cars that impact spot is a guaranteed trip to the hospital. Mini's are supposed to be some of the safest autos out there, even though some say size and weight would deminish it a little.
It would seem this one did a very good job at protecting you. I hope Santa will see fit to reward you with another one. Glad to hear you walked away.

Glad that you are ok. That is quite a bit of damage from just another car. I wonder what the pics would have been like if an SUV struck you. How much did the door push into the cabin?

After it was all said and done I was shoved to the right side of the drivers seat. I went to the wreckyard yesterday and got my stuff from the car and they showed me that the door had been hit so hard that the door locks had ripped through the metal holding it in place. Also he showed me that the body of the car had buckled and you could see some bulges in the roof from the body bending.
I will post the two pics I took at the wreck yard later. The buckling is not noticeable in the pics but I only had a few minutes to get my stuff so I didnt want to waste time snapping a bunch of pics.

Most of the people I have talked to about this accident all agree that with an impact like that, she COULD NOT have been going the speed limit of 30. She had to have been speeding.
What do you guys think?
