What would you pay for an 09 used JCW Mini?

I've had my 09 JCW Mini up for sale for about a month or so and gotten a lot of responses from tire kickers and buyers who flake out on deals. Had the car up for sale before for $26,900. Just reduced my price to $25,250 to just be done with it already....is that a reasonable price for an 09 with 9500 miles on it? Options are cold weather package, cream color line, multi-function steering wheel, rear fog lights, pepper white/black, black sport stripes, gray/carbon leatherette. Is $25,250 a reasonable price or has the market tanked that much? What would you pay for a JCW if you were shopping used?

For just 20% more you can get a 10 with 2.9 financing and come resale time have a 1 year newer car (meaning you will get back most if not all of the extra up front costs). Also you get an extra year of warranty and routine maintenance.

If going used I would look for an 07/08 with many more options for less $. This is the problem when trying to sell a 1 year old car. You are stuck between new and used and it is a very limited market.

JCW cars are pretty personal I think. When I decided to get one, the dealer had one on the lot and two more incoming in the next couple weeks. None of them suited my vision of how I wanted my car colored and optioned, either too much or too little. I think your car is pretty lightly optioned which may appeal to some buyers, offend others. I kind of agree with Julien321, I think most folks would rather custom order unless the pre-owned car is a bargain which I think of as $10K or more off new. Some may not believe it, but I think MINI's vaunted resale value is gone, and yes the market is still pretty weak for cars in general. How much you will have to drop to find a buyer is directly dependent on how long you can hold on to it, there's a buyer out there somewhere for your car.

As an aside, I was at a recent PCA event at a local dealer. They had a CPO '06 911 for around $50K, its window sticker had been $98K. Checking around, there's lots of similar cars for similar prices.

The JCW wasn't available in 07/08 though....maybe I'm just cheap, but $5k is a decent chunk of change, close to $100/month on a 60-month loan. Penfed has used car loans for 3.99% for 60 months (just got one for my new car). I didn't see anything on the Mini website about 2.9% for 2010 JCW's, only 1.9% on Clubmans - do you have a link?

Even Carmax offered me $23k, so I can't see $10k off as that would be well below Carmax pricing.....maybe I'm just being unrealistic, but I thought $25k should move it.

Of course I think it is a low price.

I think you are to low on your price. I would not sell my 2009 JCW for less then $29,500 if it was for sale. The JCW 2009 engine is from Germany. It is a plus for the Mini JCW. The Transmission , Clutch is beefier. The turbo is larger. Large brembo brakes. It is a great performance car for someone looking for hi-performance.

Not that the Mini "S" is a dog but I prefer my JCW.

Mine is not for sale at all.

What with unemployment, etc. and a generally deflationary economy I think all indulgences are coming down in price, sometimes dramatically so. If you are in an area that has not been hit too bad economically, you'll probably get more $$ than in an area that's been harder hit.

Gerarddm you can't be more correct then that

Gerarddm is right on that. The people just are not buying because of job loss Etc. It is just not a good time to sell anything right now. WJ94's car should have sold fast at that price but I guess it is still high if you are broke.

So you think you could sale a used 09 car for $950 less than the MSRP of a new 10 that many report getting $500 off? It's a good thing you don't need to sale yours.

Bottom right.

EDIT: Looks like I left off the $500 Cold Weather Package.

Thanks, doesn't show up on Google Chrome for some reason. The interest difference is kind of minimal between 2.9% and 3.99%. I guess we'll see how it turns out.

Personally, if you'd been within driving distance and I had gotten as good of an offer through PenFed to buy a used car as I did to buy a new one, then I probably would've went for yours.

Actually, I just ran the numbers through them and the payment would be almost identical to what I got. Damn the luck! And of course you may be on the other side of the country. As others have said though, that extra warranty on a car that has shown itself to not always be 100% reliable is pretty important.

I'm sure with that price, you'll eventually get a serious bite. To say the car market is soft right now is laughable. It is mush. I special ordered my MINI and still got $1k off the MSRP. The MA I was working with quit right before I took delivery of my car, and I have a sneaking suspicion it has something to do with the fact that he told me he only made $900 last month (!!!). Compare that to how MINIs were selling two years ago.....whew. But, as we know, all it will take will be gas going up again to cause MINIs sales to jump just like it did before. You simply cannot buy this kind of performance with this kind of fuel economy anywhere else.

One other problem you have right now is bad year end timing. In relative terms all things being equal your car will be worth the same in 11 months as it is now because it will still be one year old to NADA/Kelley.

They had my '09 Clubbie JCW for sale w/ 8500 miles for $28,999 at dealer. After tax's and a JCW front bumper and brake ducts, reached just below $32k. It pretty much only had a sunroof, auto climate, bi-xenon projectors from what I can tell. EDIT: window sticker I believe was $37k.

They had another one there, an HB with auto wipers, auto headlights, bi-xenon projectors I think, leather seats, no sunroof, for a $1k lower. ($27,999) I believe. Think it had a few more miles than mine if I remember right.

I bought the Clubbie cause I prefer the sunroof over auto everything. I can turn on my own headlights and wipers thank you. Leather would've been nice tho.

If I had the extra cash for insurance I'd drive down there and buy it from you. I just double checked my insurance quote and it would pretty much be double what I already pay for my Cooper, and it's already ridiculously high for me.

To me it's a great price, if I remember your past posts, you bought it for almost $35k, right? Good luck with the sale man, hopefully the market turns around for you soon.

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not, but why would I do that?

I originally leased it, but no, it wasn't $35k. I'm not sure how going to the JCW would double your insurance, seems kind of strange....unless you're really young or have a lot of claims/tickets, or both. I just want to get it out of here already, too many cars in the driveway.

I've been looking at Minis for a couple of months on autotrader.com, ebay and such and it seems they are hardly selling at all. Must be the economy, I suppose. I'm eyeing an '09 JCW right now, similar to yours but with a sunroof and fewer miles that I can probably get for $25000. If you go on Ebay and look at the completed listings for Minis in general you would see that maybe 1 in 75 sell. Pretty tough times out there......................

Now pricing your car a little above or around the "S" range will give you a slight advantage...but overall people aren't buying many $25-30K used vehicles these days...economy is still down.

What's the asking price on the car you're looking at? Just curious.

That's what I figured....what's the mileage? Let me know if you end up actually getting it for $25k. I'm curious to see what dealers are willing to sell for right now. Do you know what the original sticker was?

I will. I don't know what the original price was, though. My little voice keeps telling me to hold onto my money, but as usual, I'm a poor listener. We'll see......

That's what happened with the Corvette I bought....my "save your money" side told me to keep the Mini until my lease was up. My "I may never get this chance again" side told me to buy the car I wanted, so I did and have no regrets. Do you have a link to the car you're looking at?

WJ94, I wish you the best of luck selling your car. I have a hard time understanding why someone would buy a used car for $25,000 to $30,000 or even more. Maybe its just me, I prefer to buy new.

I just paid $35k for a used Corvette....I could have paid $50k for a new one that is one model year newer with the same options. $15k in my pocket is a lot of money for only 13k miles of use. That's a difference of about $275/month on a 60-month loan.
