Rain and Mini Doors

It's been storming here in the Bay Area and every time I open my door to get in I get a lot of water on my driver's seat. I don't mean it rains on my seat from the door being open, I mean large drops from my car fall into my car.

Does anyone else have this problem? Anyone have a solution?

Everyone with a MINI has that problem. The roof is narrower than the doors, so when you open the window it all just falls on you instead of rolling down the window.

Before opening the door, shake your MINI several times like it is a snack machine with your snack in there hung up on the rack. Enough too cause all the puddled water on the roof to roll off.

Or, keep a good rag close at hand to wipe down your seat after opening.

Drive fast so the water doesn't have a chance to accumulate on the roof, or brake check before you have to get out of your car

Perhaps a rolled-up "Sham-Wow" in your umbrella case for those rainy days, to wipe off the excess roof puddles before opening the door.

The car sucks when you open a wet door OR when you crack the window and it's raining or you run the wiper/washers. They could probably do some mod to make it less wet but who cares in the long run. The dudes who blow smokes in the rain get wet interiors, what can I say?

The is a design feature, not a problem!

MINI provides a cool, refreshing spritz every time you get in after there's a rain shower.

Is this tendency as noticable on the Clubman? I would think the shape of the roof would reduce it somewhat. Mine is on order, so I can't help with any answers.

I think it helps a little but I still have the same issue of a few drops getting the seat wet.

On the other hand snow is a different story. When I go out and wipe the snow off the drivers window and above it on the dune. I still get snow on the seat when I open the door. But that is what seat heaters are for right? Drying your but when it gets wet from snow.

I guess that's what they were doing in this commercial:

Someone needs to make carbon fiber fins that attach to the "gutters" above the windows. This would look like some sort of new performance mod, but really be a more functional rain gutter.

i had that problem too when it rained in LA of all places this past year...

it especially sucks when you're going thru a drive-thru, cuz you can't keep your windows down while you wait for your food/change.

the sham-wow idea is good, i'm on board.

welcome to mini ownership indeed....

There's an easy solution. Just move to Arizona. It hardly rains here, and the weather is awesome 8 months out of the year. And we're a "no front plate" state, and even though the tint laws limit fronts to 35%, nobody enforces it and pretty much anything goes.. due to....

Of course the other 4 months are brutal.. 100+ days of triple-digits every year, and last year we had 30+ that broke 110.

So does a shower but I don't drive my car every time I get out of the shower...

(okay, seemed funnier in my head)

I haven't had water get in, when opening the door on my Clubman.
I've noticed that the Clubman has a ridge in either side of the roof, that the coupe doesn't have, it redirects the water fore and aft instead of towards the doors.
