Day of Surgery (pics)

Bu during pre-op

The 1st Cut

Oops, the glass just broke bigtme

Tools of the trade. This looked like a sawzall with a pancake spaula mounted on it.

Out with the old

Irrigating the wound

New seal going down

The transplant

Closing the wound and dressings applied

And it all gets to be done again once they get another new windscreen in. This one has a nasty scratch that they didn't notice until it was already in place and sealed down.

They actually had it all put back together before noticing the scratch and they don't currently have another replacement glass. They have to order one. I have my Escort radar/laser detector mounted to my headliner. No antennae mounted to the glass and no rain sensors either. Some MINI's have rain sensors and defrost strips as well.

omg where did you find these guys ?

I have had about 6 different windshields taken out and installed, 3 on my MINI and no one ever used power tools.....esp with the VIN plates we have, they are so fragile and suseptable to tearing and being destroyed.

When they re=assemble the A pillars, be SURE they align the foam backing properly so the drain holes are not blocked.....A friend of mine with a 2nd Gen MINI had that happen and over a the course of a few weeks, the pass side floor ended up with a few gallons of water under the carpet....

And why is the bonnet up exactly while he is breaking the old seal ? Do they want to scratch that too ? No need to raise the bonnet for this proceedure at this time. Again, not liking what I see here. I would bet there is about he equivilent of 60-80 lbs of force being used with that blade to slice and separate the old glass from the old seal....one slip of the knife and it's curtains for the oem finish on that bonnet....

JMO, but based upon what I have seen, and the crappy glass they put in, I would seriously start looking for another company.....power tools like that are designed to remove old bonding cement off of buidlings concrete walls when refacing them.................

These are the only power tools I have seen available for this proceedure.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pF4hpR3SLME

Looks like this was their training video, but the missed a whole bunch of steps like water lubrication, covering interior apholstry, taping off areas of the car...... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YhzFl...eature=related

I would make a close inspection of your headliner for any marks or stains from that power tool

LOL, I was getting ready to ask the same thing! What kind of window replacement requires a saws all!

The company looks like Safelite. They did mine but jacked it up. I don't recommend them at all.

I think it just depends on the individual Safelite, and now conscientious and well-trained they are. I've had Safelite replace a windscreen on Clara and repair one on Josie and both times they were very good, careful, and thorough.

I wouldn't let those goons anywhere near my car. That entire operation has FAIL written all over it. And a scratched windshield on top of all that other abuse? Unbelievable. Get a refund and find a competent glass company to do the work the 2nd time.
