Torque steer

Just wanted to pass this along to see if others experience similar results.

I have a 2008 MCS with the JCW tune, JCW suspension, very light wheels, LSD, and DSC. With DSC enabled (default setting), I typically experience what feels like pretty severe torque steer under heavy acceleration. (strong tugging at the wheel) Lately, when trying to have a bit more "fun", I have been disabling my DSC. With DSC off, I pretty much have "zero" torque steer.

Give it a try if you have a similar set-up and let us know what you think.... but be careful since you are disabling an electronic security feature.

I have a 2008 MCS w/ the JCW tune as well and I experience a good amount of toque steer as well. I have 17" web spokes and the sport suspension, so they are very similar cars. I have never payed attention when turning off the DSC though, I will it today and get back to you.

Turning off DSC should make a huge difference. Hitting the button once would reduce the DSC function and reduce the traction control. Hitting the button again should remove the anti-skid and get rid of all safety nets on the car and let you maximize your car's limited slip differential to put power down.

In mid 2010, MINI unfortunately got rid of the mechanical LSD option altogether and only gave you the option of getting the Electronic Differential Lock Control by way of the sport package. This is the same feature that the factory JCW's have in lieu of a mechanical limited slip. It only really functions like a true limited slip when you disable all traction aids, and doesn't do that great a job even then. In my case, torque steer is made even worse in my stock MCS because of the awful run-flats.

Glad to hear you've found another way to enjoy the MINI even more!

"only gave you the option of getting the Electronic Differential Lock Control by way of the sport package."

EDLC came with the DTC option which could be ordered separately for $250.

DSC=Torque

IMHO, the tourque steer you are feeling is indeed the DSC, however with DSC off you may be breaking the tires loose, therefore you do not feel the torque.
