Need opinions... thought I had the answer but...

For those of you that have been following the rebuild

Though Oscar is not cleaned up and doesn't have the clear bra and emblems on, I've been thinking of leaving him without stripes. I bought the stripes already but starting to doubt my first choice.

So do I leave him like this?

Or should he have stripes like before?

I've also thought of doing the stripes and having them go all the way down.

Thoughts?

Thanks,

Mark

It looks nice without the stripe....but I love the center stripes too.

Except I would put thinner stripes on it, or maybe something more like Scuderia stripes (from the 430 Scud). I like how they come to a point at either side of the emblem. The square stripes look better if you carry them all the way to the bumper IMO....

Damn that car is beautiful I say some black go-faster stripes..will blend nicely with the hoodscoop. It'd really tie the car together, but that's IMO. If you don't use em, can I have them?

Nope, more unique without the stripes, looks very good just the way she is.
Good luck in whatever you decide .

Leave off the stripes: real beauty (as in the gorgeously clean black-and-orange look you've already created) is never improved by mere decoration.

The 'before' version looks cluttered and ordinary by comparison.

I'd leave them off personally, I love the clean look. I'm almost thinking the scoop would look better painted orange but I can't decide.

If you do put them back on I think they would look a lot better all the way down the bumpers.

It's funny you say that... I was going to paint the scoop and mirror caps tomorrow in the color of the car and see how it looked.

I'll post pics.

The car looks fabulous! Orange is by far my favorite color, I am green with envy!

I think no stripes. The only way to improve it, IMHO, would be if the trim on the headlights and taillights was black, too.

But, hey, that's like saying the Mona Lisa has a hair out of place! The car is already fantastic, whatever you decide can't do any damage.

Ah! I have a vote... :)

As I said in the rebuild thread.

NO STRIPES.

I think it will look different once he adds the emblems, especially if he puts the stripes on. With black stripes, and a huge black scoop, and a little black emblem, all in one small area, it'll look really broken up. Way too much going on in a little area.

I think once the scoop is painted orange it'll be perfect.

My vote is go with stripes, but not those stripes. I think some wider ones would look great - wider than your old stripes but not as wide as the scoop.

My suggestion is a wide solid black stripe.

Why not have someone photoshop the changes before you actually paint?

Which is easier?

My 2¢ = I like it as it's pictured. Though I think it would look good with stripes, I think it looks cleaner/sleeker without them. Great job by the way.

Love the way it looks right now. Super clean and aggressive.

The only thing I would change is the side scuttles, they just don't fit in with the rest of the car. I would paint the chrome on them black and see how it looks.

Yes it looks clean without them, but that car is mean and the stripes will really help show that.

Stripes like last time, all of the way down is my official vote for now.

Stripes. All the way down.

And a tint strip at the top and bottom of the windshield.
And a big decal that says "COOPER" across the top of the windshield.
And a graphic on the back windshield that says "In Loving Memory Of...."
And a "My Honor Student..." bumper sticker.
And little stick figures of your family.

Hmm. OK, you can leave off the rest of it, but I do like the stripes. All the way down.

Man I hate those. Like..you drive a minivan/SUV...I'd like to reason that there's a NEED for that much car, but thanks for reaffirming it with a bunch of decals of you, your sig other (that probably is not a waver), your three darlings, your three cats, two dogs, hamster, and goldfish. The worst is when they're driving one of those tanks down the highway and they've got the decals of a mom, dad, and one kid (who's small size and curl on the head implies it's a kid the size of a football), and a dog. Yes, I'm sure Fido takes up that much room

I'm tempted, in my glory of singlehood, to just slap the female sticker on my Clubby and be proud I bought my MINI for me and me only.

It would look great either way. Due to the custom paint, I would only hope you would choose equally neato custom stripes if you do.

I have seen this on a guy's car before. Neat little coupe (don't recal what kind of car, but small) had one and it was just him.

Excellent work and congrats on finishing so soon... you put that thing together in the time it takes me to rebuild my superbike crashes.

No stripes this time around or "mini" oriented stripes instead of the viper style.

Looks great either way, do what makes you feel good

Stripes or no stripes? It's a preference thing and the choice is more driven by feel than anything else. Since you already have the materials, why not drive it around for a while without and see how it makes you feel? You can always add them later, right? If it were me, and I did decide to add them, I would do something a little off the beaten path and make it my own...maybe an off center stripe with a thinner pinstripe beside. Shucks, be creative!
