Just got back from a 2011 Cooper S test drive with my MA... He mentioned that MINI are removing the burble/pop from 2011/2012 Cooper S's due to customer complaints???

The Canadian 2011 S with 5,000km I drove sounded nice but there was no burble or pop at all, even with the sport button ON. He wasn't sure if the JCW would still have the burble/pop.

Well, my 2011 MCS certainly Has the burble and pop and I love it. I cannot imagine why anyone would complain about.

My 2011 Clubman with JCW exhaust (thanks Jim!) is lethal with the "button ON"... Sounds crazy with pops! And I love it (when I use it occasionally)...

I love it too and it really doesn't make sense removing it... especially when it is only present with the Sport Button on. People who don't like it would probably never use the Sport button anyways. Maybe it's a Canadian thing or my MA was just blowing smoke. I wasn't driving too aggressively as the MA was in the car with me - so annoying having a baby sitter during a test drive.

My 2011 JCW HT has the jack and wrench under a lift-up panel in the rear boot.

Shucks, my JCW HT burbles all the time, Sport or not. it is more of an aggressive sound with the Sport on though.

It would be a great tragedy if the pop and burble was removed. If its the case of complaints then people should buy the Justa or not use the sport button.
What I noticed was the auto hold on a hill or anywhere else. I thought the brakes were sticking lol.

exhaust pops and burbles

I didn't touch the sport button for the first two weeks while breaking my 2011 MCS in...

When I finally did, it was like when Peter Griffin didn't have gas until he was 30:
"brrrrpp -- What the hell was that??"

you don't need to break off the plastic rings to lower the rear headrests. use a needle nose plier and/or small metal object (nail) to push out the small metal dowel which locks the ring together. headrest can now be lowered or removed. and you save the ring for any potential resale of the mini.

Neil J : LOL!

On a club run, I was downchanging at high revs and the consensus from the cars behind was that MINI had rather overdone the popping!

The black plastic piece on the rear headrests can be removed by just getting a paper clip and pushing out the silver pin, then the plastic piece just slips off, I work as a motoring advisor at mini and remove them before delivery.

For liability/legal reasons, protecting both you and your dealership, you might just mention to the customer how "some people" do this, and not actually remove this "safety device" before delivery. FWIW

I remove them upon request, as most people think they look hideous!

What even are they for? They aren't fitted to Euro-spec cars, at least not the ones that come to Australia.

Is it only "S"s that pop and burble? I am picking up a regular MC in a week and wondering if it will make some noise.

I couldn't imagine getting all psyched up again about a MINI that wasn't an '06 much less El Kabong. While I would be thrilled if I still had El Kabong, I'll say that all the little changes in the ensuing 5 years have made for a MINI that I totally fell in love with on the first drive home. The interior fit and finish is just crisper somehow, the center console has a more intuitive layout(to me) and the handling has made an exciting change.
I think I lucked out again and got the best of the current generation .

Same for me! I love the improvements and found it very hard initially to consider moving on from my 2006.

Yep, I think owning a 2006 and now a 2011, we got the best of the first and second generations, lol!

Since '89 I have owned 5 new cars... 2 Nissans, 1 Ford and 1 Honda, + '10 Clubman... all of them did not have a lighter.
My past 06 MCS came with a cigarette lighter and ashtray. I don't smoke so i pulled it out, put it in the ashtray with my pocket change.
