Well, let's hope not!

I know that some experts recommend no rotation for tires. I did a fair amount of reading on the subject, but after seeing the uneven wear that the front tires had in comparison to the rear tires, I decided that the rotation should be done. I was also surprised to see the Contis had worn so much in only 7500 miles. My previous cars' tires never wore that much. Perhaps the Conti tire is softer, or perhaps it's because the MINI is front wheel drive. Not really sure. But when it is time to replace the tires, I would rather start fresh with 4 new tires all with the same amount of tread, rather than getting 2 at a time and then having to get 2 more a few months down the road. Seems like a hassle.

Thanks wpb. It looks like they have changed the language, at least between 2008 and 2011. Just looked up the 2011 language which reads:

Swapping wheels among the axles
Depending on the individual use, front and rear tires may exhibit different wear and tear.

In order to maintain an even wear and tear, the wheels may be rotated between the axles. Your
MINI dealer will be glad to advise you.

Always check the inflation pressure after the tire rotation, if necessary change the pressure.
That last sentence implies to me that MINI recognizes tire rotations will be done.

This can be compared to the language in the 2008 manual:

Swapping wheels among the axles
The manufacturer of your MINI recommends that you do not swap the front wheels with the rear wheels.
Looks like they added the language about rotations starting with the 2010 models.

If you go to an autocross I would bet someone would do this for you for a fun run.

Changing tires is pretty much the easiet thnig in the world to do on your car.

Also somebody posted a video of cars loosing traction in the back and spinning out in the rain - when the best tires were rotated to the front IIRC. So rotate them often - or not at all !

Found it - post #6 here.

Thanks for the quote. I did not have my manual handy when I typed my response, but that is what my 2010 manual states.

thanks!
