6 Months - 2350 miles - R56 - 1st Oil and Filter
Having read all of the various posts regarding oil and filter change routines, and recognizing that the passion of posters borders on insanity, I went in today for our first one. 2010 MCS, 6 months old, and 2350 miles on the odometer.
Worth noting that the service department folks at Midwestern MINI are top notch. Worked this morning with their service manager, Keith, and it was a pleasure.
He, of course, reminded me that the oil and filter was NOT required by warranty but understood that I was interested in keeping a more regular series of oil and filter changes. Topped off fluids, tire pressures and oil and filter for less than $100. Based on some of the other stories I've read regarding dealerships across the country, sounds like this was a pretty good deal.
So, did I NEED to do it? Probably not.....do I feel good knowing it's done? Yes. :>

Bad part is, OBC still indicates 8k until service is needed. Intermediate oil changes definitely seem like a good idea, rather than waiting for MINI to say it's time.

I changed the oil in mine @ 2K mi. It cost me $20 for a 27mm oil filter socket (eBay), $55 for the heavy duty (grey) rhino ramps, and $60 for the oem MINI filter and MINI synthetic oil from the dealership. It takes about 30 min. to do an oil change, and in the long run you'll save a ton of money doing it yourself in between the free scheduled maintenance.

From what I've read, you did alright. I've read some posts where the dealership wanted $200+ to change oil at the customers request during the warranty period.
2500 miles is a good time to do the first change in my opinion. Any accumulation of metal particles from the break in period, hopefully almost zero, will be gotten rid of.
You do gotta drive that car more.
