RIP Mini Cooper 2008
- Convience Package
- Premium Package
- Dual Sunroof
- Navigation
- Xenon Headlights
- 45k miles on it
Christmas Eve: I am thankful to be alive. Everyone made it out good. I pray and hope my insurance company gives me what the vehicle is worth (21k... more if you consider new tires, and bright headlights which I can't factor into NADA). If i get enough money, I am thinking of buying a 2011 Jetta TDI. The pick up on that thing is AMAZING.
If anyone is curious what happened, a woman driving a truck was driving in wet weather and spun out of control from the right lane and into mine. Mini did its job of PROTECTING MY *** from dieing, just like the research I did before I bought it. (the inside of the vehicle is unscathed) I will provide more details once I can use both my hands again.

I see you hit hard enough to deploy the front airbags...sure glad you are okay! Sad to see your MINI in that condition but it's good to know it took good care of you when it counted.
Just curious...given the experience you just had as to the MINI's crash worthiness, why jump to a Jetta? FWIW, at some point I'm betting you'll be wishing you were back in a MINI.
Certainly a Christmas to remember for you -- and to give thanks.

Vw?
Glad to see your OK!
A Jetta? Please! Even with the acceleration you need to be schooled on the horrible VW workmanship, service, and attitude!
My daughter had to make the same mistake, lived to regret it, and is back in a MINI!
After saving your life, you want to kick her to the curb?
Robert

Sorry to hear of your misfortune, but glad to know you came through unscathed.
These stout little cars will surprise. Here’s a NAM post of a Cooper that t-boned an SUV. You can see the SUV in the background. http://bit.ly/gKOH6n

Unfortunately, I won't be able to get a mini again. Don't get me wrong, I loved it. But I have a neice now, and my little sister is 7 as well. I'm practically married, plan on having kids within two years... So it's more practical to get a four door sedan. Plus I love the gas mileage on the diesel tdi, which I personally tested my friends and got 45 mpg. The inside is awesome too.
Anyways, the safety ratings for the jetta is great and it's practical. I travel at minimum 140 miles a day because of work. Also the mini has lost resale value more quickly than I like, while the tdi holds it.
All in all I need a vehicle that can tow my infant neice, little sister when I got visit her (on my dads side), my boyfriend, my future kids, and more stuff to place things because I travel alot.
I will get another mini one day for driving around town, or road trips. Jetta tdi just seems like a smart decision right now.

Sorry about you getting hit, at least it wasn't your fault!
A TDI would be a great choice, but I'd HIGHLY recommend the Golf over the Jetta. The Golf has a nicer higher quality interior, doesn't have a torsen beam suspension and is made in Germany (if that actually matters). The fit and finish and build quality on the Golf are so much higher, please do check it out and consider it over the Jetta.
Do a little research on vwvortex or tdiclub about the differences between the new Jetta and the MK VI TDI.

BTW, 41MPG on my FIRST tank, driving it HARD to break in the engine. Rock on! (50MPG on highway regularly! Love it!)

Thanks! I did do research, and I ended up getting the Jetta still. I like the leg room, and I want a 4-door Sedan with a trunk. I would have a hatchback like a Golf if a family wasn't in my near future... and if I didn't live/work out of my car. The fit and finish is still FINE to me, and honestly I don't know what I am missing since i haven't seen the older models. Plus, the only NOTICEABLE difference is the interior hard dash, which I never touch. Which looks the same as the old.
