Yep stock RF tyres.. Main roads were fine, back roads still totally ice covered and Mini did just fine. I agree that a manual transmission does seem to give you a better feel for driveing in bad conditions

To serve and protect. He should have gave him some tips and allowed him to practice. How is he suppose to learn. Thats how everyone did learn it back in the day. Then again today cops are just tax collecters with a shiney badge.
I prefer the geek in glasses at the IRS office myself as he is not openly carring a gun. Make the collection part a lot easier.

The owners son of the company I use to work for got caught in AK doing donuts in a rental car. Got a ticket and Avis banned him from renting for life and they were our corporate account at the time. Cops let Avis know what happened. He was like 22 and from San Diego and playing in empty parking lot. First time he had driven in the snow!

I thought that what rental cars were are for and if you break it just call and
they will bring you another. Would be a good thread -Creative ways you
masked damage returning a rental car. I have 4 good ones. One involves, Lipstick, one a rattle can- why you always rent white, lol, use the jack out of the trunk and the famous Hawaii plungger and KFC honey story.

I'm glad you survived the morning's commute with no problems.

I do have a suggestion, though. If there are any sports car autocrosses in your area, I'd suggest you investigate entering some of these. IMO, there's no better place to learn car control.

DSC/TC - on at all times, off only when stuck from a standstill. Oh, and during an autocross event.... For fun.

Same here in the Seattle area only warmer (60 Deg F in the last few days) - low land flooding now.

I have turned it off once, for a specific situation and it was better.

Leave it on all the time, but for me, getting over the slight hump in front of my garage, it is best off. The reason is my snow tires spinning will dig down and hit pavement and I get in the garage without any drama. With it on, it just feels wrong and seemed to take forever. So, if your tread is good enough, and you are stuck in a specific spot, the tires spinning work best, but at speed, on the road, on is much safer and better with it on (could be all the time for you.)

Man...here I am about to go from driving a Subaru to a MCCS and you guys are makin' me all sorts of nervous about Detroit winter roads in a front wheel drive car after so long with AWD!

We're going up to 36 tomorrow, just long enough for the terror known as freezing rain, followed by an inch of snow on top of the 1/4" or so of ice that'll turn into!

Well, at least I'll have my scooby for another couple months (at the rate it's taking for my MINI to get out of "Ordered" status), so the worst of this winter should be beyond me....

I really don't see a lot of people talking about driving MINIs from areas that get LOTS of snow...More often than not I see postings in the owner's lounge or on MINI forums about "Oh, it's snowing, so I'm not taking the MINI today"...

People're makin' me nervous about my purchasing decision, and after my deposit's become non-refundable!
