Got a rattle / creak / squeak from the sunroof? PROBLEM SOLVED.
So my Mini has been to the dealer a dozen times or so for a rattle / squeak from the sunroof area. Last week I realized that if I pushed upwards (towards the sky) on the rear glass the sounds typically stop....so what could be causing this ridiculous sound (especially on concrete)....well it turns out that the mesh screens that slide in and out are not only made of cheap plastic but are also mounted on plastic rails.....
So I asked my dealership to take out my screens. Voila, I no longer have any sounds coming from the sunroof.
I would highly recommend taking them out to anyone that does not need them...since my sunroofs are tinted at 5% I do not have any need for them.
I finally had a peaceful ride into work today.

I had rattle that sounded like a canister of CO2 on a tin can especially when cold. It was horrid rattle and maddening... Apparently the sunroof has a positional adjustment, and can be trued up. It was bizarre rattle, from sunroof itself, but with a second visit and then another that day with the tech, I was able to get them to drive it cold and the rattle was obvious!
Cheers!

Why not lube the plastic slides with some rubber / vinyl treatment......
Rather than throw out the baby with the wash (we LIKE the screens even with added tint).
