New Mini Owner with a ?

Well I bought my 07 Mini a few days ago. I love it more and more each day. My forst question is on the driverside window its about a 1/4 inch low how do I fix it. Other than the every now and then humm from the 30mph winds we've been having I never would have know.

Thanks

James

James, I have not done this on my car but usually you have to take the door panel off and there are usually one or two bolts that hold the window regulator in place. Loosen those a bit and see if it will slide up any. It may not go up though as sometimes it is only adjustable to get it level. Post a pic of where the window is with the door closed, I dont think mine goes all the way to the top either...

The window is suppose to drop a quarter inch every time you open the door and go back up when you close it. You need to reindex the window. This is done by opening the door, turn on ignition, hold window switch down until the window is all the way down and then holding the switch up until the window is all the way up. You may have to try this a couple of times, but eventually you'll get the right ssequence.

Is this because it helps depressurize the cabin when you open/close the door.
I have been wondering why it does this.

It does it to clear the lip around the roof of the car.

Yeah, i've been having the same problem with my 08' S. Whenever i hold up the window to 'reindex' it , it just goes right back down once it hits the top. So strange and so annoying because it whistles on the highway & i have to keep a towel down when it rains.

Yep still goes up and down as normal. The tecs said hes seen where someone had locked there keys in the car and when the locksmith came to assist in unlocking it they pushed down on the window and it messed up the alingment.

At MalloryJade, you need to take your car to the dealer for a full reprogram to update the FRM footwell module software. That will fix the issue you are having with the window bouncing back down.

There is a DIY initialize procedure, but it most likely wont work for you. Press and hold UP for 5 seconds when the window is at the top and press and hold DOWN when the window is down for 5 seconds.

Also BMW recommends every week or two using auto down and auto up so the window fully goes down and back up. That resets the hall counter in the window motor. So briefly press the window down switches and the window should drop all the way open. Then briefly press the UP for each window and both should shut tight (this only works with the doors closed). If auto up or down does not work for you then try the re-initialize procedure above or take the car to the dealer.

His car is an '07 and doesn't have auto-up. Ask me how I know! :^(

Oh crap! Those darn 07s without auto-up. I see that both the window motors and the FRM module (that controls the windows) both changed for 08.

Either way, if the windows forget their programming and bounce half-way open will need a trip to the dealer (or a J2534 cable and a minitechinfo.com subscription) for an update.

Here is one of the bulletins:

SI M51 01 08
Body Equipment October 2009
Technical Service

Load Graphics
This Service Information bulletin supersedes SI M51 01 08 dated September 2009.
designates changes to this revision
SUBJECT
Window Control Function Inactive

MODEL
R55 (Cooper Clubman, Cooper S Clubman) produced from 12/2007 up to 4/2009
R56 (Cooper, Cooper S) produced from 12/2007 up to 4/2009

SITUATION
One or more of the following conditions may be present:
The one-touch open or close feature is inoperative.
The windows open automatically immediately after closing (anti-trap activation).
The window motor does not respond when the window switch is pressed briefly.
Fault codes 9CC7 or 9CC8 (power window Hall sensor faulty) are stored in the Footwell Module (FRM).
The window initialization check control message is displayed.
CAUSE
Initialization is lost and/or anti-trap protection is triggered unnecessarily, due to the sensitivity of the FRM software and the way in which it resets the Hall sensor counter on the window motor.
Typically, numerous operations of the window, without the window being fully opened, will trigger this loss of initialization. This is due to the fact that the Hall sensor counter is not being reset on a regular basis.
CORRECTION
A software solution is available.
The FRM no longer needs to be replaced for this situation.
PROCEDURE
Connect the vehicle to ISTA and conduct a vehicle test.
If fault codes 9CC8 and/or 9CC7 are present in the FRM, continue to step 3. If these faults are not present, continue to step 7.
Inspect both the left and right side A-pillar connectors for signs of corrosion. If any corrosion is present, continue to step 4. If no corrosion is present, continue to step 7.
Replace all corroded pins on the body side of the connector. If the door side of the connector is also corroded, the door harness should be replaced.
[SX6102029.JPG]
Apply dielectric grease to the pin side of the connector.

[SX6102028.JPG]
Apply dielectric grease to the terminals (2), and between the wires (1) where they enter the connector on the terminal side of the connector.

Program the vehicle using ISTA/P 2.35.1 or later.
Note that ISTA/P will automatically reprogram and code all programmable control modules that do not have the latest software.
For information on programming and coding with ISTA/P, refer to Centernet / Aftersales Portal / Service / Workshop Technology / Vehicle Programming.
Reinitialize the power windows via the initialization test plan in ISTA D2.13.0 or later. This test plan may be found under Service Functions/Body/Locking and Security/Power Windows/Initialize Power Window.
At the completion of the initialization test plan, if "Unknown variant of control unit" is displayed, it should be ignored. It does not indicate a failure of the initialization.
As an alternative, the windows may be initialized manually, using the following procedure:
Note: This procedure replaces that in Repair Instruction 67 62..., which will be updated. The procedure shown in the repair manual is for vehicles without the one-touch window control.
Close the window and door fully.
Lower the window by holding the switch in the "down" position. Continue to hold the switch down for at least 5 seconds after the window has been fully lowered.
Raise the window by holding the switch in the "fully up" position. Continue to hold the switch in the up position for at least 5 seconds after the window has been fully raised.
Repeat steps 1 to 3 for the window on the other side.
