I have an 07 S. I would like the sport mode on all the time instead of having to turn it on at start. Is there a way to do that? This is my first post here so forgive if it is adressed elseware.
This question has probably been asked and answered before but I'll ask it anyway. What impact if any does the sport button have on MPG? I would think there is some impact as rpm is higher under normal driving. True?
None. It just changes throttle response and steering effort. Unless you tend to floor the gas pedal more with sport mode engaged. I never drive without sport mode.
My finger forgets to press the sport button occasionally. But usually before I go to far, my finger seems to find its way to press the button. I never really did any comparison of MPG with and without it, just wondered. I figured if there was a difference, it was minimal.
Good point! Higher shift point impacts me as I have an auto tranny. But I dont think the mpg impact is significant. At least not enough to keep my finger from finding the sport button.
If you have an automatic, the sport button can change mpg because it changes the shift points for the transmission.
In a manual, the only change in mpg will be because you drive differently.
Driving down the freeway all day in a 5th gear at higher RPM = MPG sacrifice. At least on 60 MPH roads I know ours never shifts fully up to 6th gear for the auto tranny.
I did one fillup with the sport button on, I love the pedal response, and one fillup with it off entirely. I got ~26.5mpg with it on, and ~29.5 with it off. I have a 09 MCS manual. I know it just changes the way the pedal responds, however it's much easier to drive 'spirited' with the sport button on and when I'm driving to work on the highway it's easier to ease onto the gas pedal without it lurching forward with slight touch of the pedal with sport off. It certainly is a lot more fun with it on though

I wonder if the change in milage comes from actual changes in the system or just due to having the extra power on tap and using it more than usual.

RPM dude - the engine fires at every piston every time they come to the top - think about it - fuel is needed for every revolution - more revolutions at a given speed - more fuel.
