Problem with Seat Back Cushioning

After 12 months of adjusting the seat every way possible, I'm almost at the end of my rope. This seat is killing my back.

My 2010 MCS has the sport seats in punch black carbon leather. Over time it seems like the leather has stretched and is less supportive. Add to that the fact there appears to be no cushion underneath the leather from about the lumbar support area all the way to the head rest. I can tap on the leather in that area and it moves like there is nothing underneath it.

Just wondering... is this normal? The only reason I ask is because none of the many loaners I've had over the last 12 months had this issue, but then again they all had vinyl seats.

The lumbar support adjustment offers no relief - the problem is in the upper part of the seat back and the lack of cushion there.

I'm going to experiment with a makeshift seat cover this weekend and try to add some cushioning in the upper part of the seat back. If this doesn't work out, I may have to part with my MINI. I'm learning that being uncomfortable at 44 years of age is a lot different than being uncomfortable at say 25. Not sure how much more my back can take.

Let us know how it goes.

I have back troubles myself.
I'm not trying to offer up medical advice for a situation
I know nothing about. I can say that working on the
abdominal/back machines/situps has helped me very much.

I also wear this brace at night when I sleep. It stretches
my back apart some and it helps.

I haven't come to terms with the seat in my '11 MCS yet either but I am getting used to it. i recently redid the seats in my wife's '02 Corvette and it's vastly improved although it was an expensive exercise replacing the foam and leathers with new pieces. If you can't find an exisiting solution with your current seats, I would look into a possible replacement with an aftermarket or alternate seat that can be bolted in place of the stocker before getting rid of the car.

You can get some pretty nice lumbar support pads, like this one in memory foam.

Just an idea. You may be able to find one in a color that complements your upholstery.

Good luck,

Just wanted to say thanks for all of the suggestions on my seat back cushion issue.

I did notice however that I have much more support in the seat back when the rear seats are folded flat and the rear headrest is flush against the back of the drivers seat.
