Cosmoline...in the glove box?

I did a search, but couldn't find anything, so apologies if it's been discussed. But today I noticed a dried-up orangish, wax-like substance on the inside left of my glove box which I can only assume is cosmoline.

It was brittle yet felt solid when I pooped it loose from where it had pooled in the glove box. It left no real visible residue, but now that it's been inside for a bit at 74F (as compared to 50F in the garage), it's now a little sticky and pliable.

So I'm sticking with cosmoline, but is it normal to see it inside the glove box?

I found either a clear grease / lube or cosmoline on the passenger carpet yesterday when I was cleaning the car the other day. I have also found traces of cosmoline at 3 or 4 locations near access points and vent holes in the bodywork.
