R56 Encouraging news if your in the market to buy a new MINI (2011)
#51
Thanks to this post (and a couple others), I'm the happy new owner of Mini Cooper that I got a great deal on. Well I don't own it quite yet. It should be here in a couple months...
Anyways, here's my story:
MC or MCS: MCS
Auto or Manual: Auto
Custom ORDER or bought from dealer INVENTORY: Custom
Date of Purchase: April 29
City/State: TX
MSRP/Sticker: ~29K
Price Paid: ~27.5K
They also threw in $500 worth of accessories. It took quite a bit of back and forth (on the phone and through email), but we finally came to a deal. I called just about every dealership in the state and did a lot of research and browsing on this forum. Pretty much everyone was willing to knock of some money and throw some kind of incentives in, but this was the best deal I could get.
Oh, and they will honor any Mini incentives at the time of delivery. I'm not holding my breath, but that would be great!
Just thought I'd post my experience to let everybody know... Good luck!

that all depends on what your TTL fees are and what your tax rate is. the best metric is always $ amount over invoice, b/c the remaining cost components are fixed/non-negotiable. that being said, anything under $1k over invoice (before incentives) seems like a great deal. $1-1.5K is a decent deal, and so on. that's based on what i've researched. but naturally, this is very much locale specific as well. dealers in certain geographic regions don't need to discount to sell minis. other dealers may have to.

So how you liking your new ride (assuming you already have it)?

invoice is 90% of msrp for the car, but obviously there's no invoice for the $700 destination charge. if the free option deal is no longer available, you basically paid invoice for your car, which is an incredible deal! if you got the premium package for free, then you're ~$1500 over invoice, which is still a good deal.

Eclipse11S - I live in Cal too and in Cal we have high taxes so TTL is roughly 9.5% - 10%. Based off my rough math that would mean you paid aprox. ($27.7k to $27.9k) + TTL = $30.5k. Did you buy from inventory or custom order? Either way that is a good deal. Heck anything is a good deal when you stay in your budget, save a few dollars, and get too smile every time you reach for your MINI key fob!

Actually I'm in San
Mateo county now and tax is 9.25.
I don't have the car yet, just ordered.

dealer installed options
how might you estimate the cost of dealer installed options?
particularly, i'm looking at getting the JCW drilled front brake rotors ($278 on web site; i know, it's mostly cosmetic) and also the black driving lamps ($534 on web site).
what would you estimate true cost for parts & labour to install? ( i don't have time to do these myself right now..i'm sure these lights come pre-wired with their own harness...and rotors, not sure how long they take..maybe an hour each side?)

Did you have to put $1k down to order the car? I am getting ready to order one but the $1k seems a bit steep especially since i won't see the car for 6-8 weeks.
