So are new generation Minis considered German or British???
Being that the Mini is traditionally a British car and is still made in the UK but is now owned and designed/engineered by BMW, do most people still consider it a British car or is it considered German?
Built in Oxford, but clearly does not even begin to have enough electrical (or overheating) problems to qualify for a "proper" fine British automobile.
I have to disagree it's a German car with British heritage.
If it were truly British it would have all of the stuff on the wrong side, like the hood release and such.
If it was all on the "wrong side", they wouldn't sell here, name 3 car manufacturers that make cars for sale in the US in RHD configurations. And I'm talking off the showroom, not specialty stuff like Mail trucks.
It is a British car, with German engineering. The spirit, soul, and heritage of the car is pure Brit, so even tho the car is a BMW and technically German, I see it as a British car.
Aisin supplies automatic transmissions to 35 automotive manufacturers around the world, virtually every major OEM. These include General Motors, Ford, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Porsche, Audi, VW, Volvo, Hyundai, Toyota.....
What defines what a car is to you? I have an engineering mindset so I look at things like the tahoe/yukon/escalade/suburban and say it's all the same car but many people don't see it that way.
So what defines your car? The engineering design overall? The chassis? The engine?
Or maybe you tend to look at the exterior design or the character of the car. With such a diverse background to the Mini there is more than one answer to this question.
