The combination of the fans running and the CEL, sounds like it's going to be a fault of the coolant temp. sensor or the MAP thermostat. If that's the case, the dealer should be replacing the entire thermostat housing.

You are correct . MAP thermostat defective and dealer replaced the t/stat housing. I found TSB # SI M11 01 11 that outlines the condition that turned on the CEL. I picked up Daphne and all seems well for now. It seems that a recall is in order for this but, recalls are not very popular with manufacturers.... Now if BMW/MINI will reimburse for the two day rental car I'd be stoked....

However, I expect the CBS to alert that the front pads need replacing in the next 10,000 miles as the dealer did not do anything other than reset the CBS and replace the pads and sensors.....
