A most beautiful noise..
I got a manual R56S this last Wednesday, and I've been having the time of my life driving her (I've already driven 400 miles). Last night my cousin took her out for a spin, and he brought to my attention the most beautiful, most satisfying noise when you let off the accelerator (especially in Sport mode) -- The MINI backfiring. Every time since I can't help but let out a little giggle (kinda embarrassing for a 20 y/o guy) and a huge smile across my face. I don't think I could have chosen a more perfect car.

I was driving my 79 with a group of MINI folk this weekend and when one person got in front of me I kept hearing something that I thought was a loose piece of trim slapping on my car.
He fell back later and I no longer heard the sound . . . he'd the newest car in the group.
I mentioned to him at a stop that I thought there might be something loose on his car.
He told me that's the factory burp .... and the best they have ever programmed .. I just didn't know what exhaust should sound like . . .
The burble I have on my 79 sounds like a Harley (when I want it to) (stainless steel PlayMini twin DTM fed by a tweeked 1275)
and the burp on my 02-S sounded .... welll, not like loose trim

I'm aware of that... my comment was tongue in cheek which I guess got lost in translation. I have driven R56S's and have ordered a JCW because I like the sound...
but most people seem to use the term backfire to indicate a cylinder misfire... not the pop and burble of unburnt fuel in the exhaust with the sport button on.

I guess young and old like the burble...
I remember when I first heard it, I had it programmed out but with the tune and exhaust I have now, I LOVE that sound...
Burble on....
