speed sensor/tire size?

My '07 r56 threw a p0501 error code- speed sensor. Yellow dash light came on in the speedo, but no other warning lights associated with DSC, antilock, etc.
Car drives fine, antilocks and cruise function normally.
I suspect that the car's pcm values may not be set for the size tire that is on it. Partly suspect this to be plausible since the dealership (Carmax) had to switch wheels from what were originally on the car.
Question:
How would I go about verifying and changing these tire size parameters in the pcm??
I have access to a code reader.

Sounds like you have a bad sensor or wire.

As far as i know there is not adjustment for tire sizes on the MINI. The speed inaccuracy of the Speedo on MINI's has been a point of contention for years. They normally read 3-4 mph less than true speed at 60 mph.

The only way any of us have found to fix this inaccuracy is to change tire size. but then it causes other inaccuracies.

Also note to you might be the fact that a typical 215-40 R17 has a variance in speed reading of 1.2 MPH over its life time as it wear.

Agreed.

What tire size is on the car?

* MINI DTC P0501 - Vehicle Speed Sensor Range / Performance
This fault code typically doesn't refer to tire circumfrance.
The code is related to the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) that the ECU sees for speedometer readings.
I'd check the wiring and sensor first before anything else.

Others who have swapped extreme tire sizes haven't seen this fault occur simply from a tire change.

This is not due to tire size. There is somthing else triggering the code.
