Hold DSC button for 10s, light turns on then off?

So what mode is this.

Ill press and hold the DSC button and the light will come on, usually after 1 or 2s. If I then continue holding it, the light will turn back off.

But, from this point forward, I cant turn DSC off again, the light wont come back on.

What mode is this, if any?

From what I understand (and I could be mistaken), when you push and hold the DSC button until the light comes on that means it's only partially off. There are still some systems up and running in case you really run into trouble. If you continue to hold the DSC button until the light goes back off, that means you're on your own until you turn the car off.

Totally not what the manual says of course. All is states is that if the light is on, DSC is off and you're on your own.

Mav is correct. It is off until you shut the car completely off and restart it again.

That makes it sound like the light off means that stability is active, only traction is turned off. The light being on means everything is off.

I don't think anybody really knows

I have DTC also, so it makes it a little easier. Press for DTC, then hold until everything shuts off.
