DIY Maintenance. What does the car need?
Hi all. So my maintenance just ran out and I've got my first service indicator since then. I'm pretty savvy when it comes to doing this stuff myself, but how do you know what maintenance is due? I know at the dealer they pop the key fob into the reader and thats how they know what's due. Is there a way to pull that info from home? I have an ODB meter but not sure that info will come up since it's not a check engine light or anything.

Huh. I'm only seeing maintenance schedules up to 2006. Since I'm driving an 2009 I believe it falls under the CBS (condition based service) in which the system is supposed to kick off codes for maintenance depending on driving habits, environment, etc.. I'm wondering if there is a way to pull those codes.

I came across this MINI document which says to be used when info from the "Condition Based Service" is not available. See PDF document below:

You should have a "SERVICE & WARRANTY INFORMATION" manual with your OWNER'S MANUAL. It's very thin (my 2012 is 30 pages).
NOTE:
2012 Mini Cooper has the Spark Plug replacement at 60,000 for the non-S and the S model (not 100,000 like the .PDF states for the non-S?)
ALSO:
Personally I'd cut that transmission oil change in half from 100,000 to 50,000 and do your engine oil about every 7,000 just to be safe. ;-) (my 2-cents)

What year and how many miles do you have on your Mini?

Your manual has instructions on how to access the OBC menu to see which specific service has triggered the indicator (seems like there are about 7 or 8 different possibilities). If you are going to be DIYing it, you'll probably want to look around for some of the checklists like what the OP shared that have some of the schedules for maintenance items that are not covered by the OBC (e.g. spark plugs).

I had posted another link I do not think I made my question understandable.
In addition to regular service, do you have to do other things that would not be on the list like
replace vacuum pump thingy that kills the entire engine or
replace timing chain bolts
on a justa or are those problems only for the S ?
