How long does a Bumper repaint last?
I hope this isn't a high jack, but I think it's related.
I got a scrape on the top of my bumper. On other cars I've found that a bumper repaint doesn't last more than 2-3 years - you get crazing and a different fade. Given where my scrape is, I can cover it with the "Scuff Protector"

Have people had experience with how long a Bumper repaint lasts? My car is Chili Red.
Thanks,
Larry

I dinged the rear bumper on my justa last year and the repair cost was about $950 for a new bumper + paint. If your bumper is not badly damaged you may get by with just paint (about $450). I've had bumpers painted on previous cars and never had any problems withe the paint fading or cracking.

I had the same thing happened to my Jasta in November. Had the MINI dealer fix it because the other guys insurance payed. Toatal cost $899. Bumper cover $365, spoiler under bumper $67, aluminum bumper bracket, mine was bent $85 and paint/labor was $336. If your keeping the car I would replace it with new, if not you could get it done for about $550 because this is how the insurance adjuster wrote it up before I went to the dealer.

I might come off like an *** but maybe this is enough justification for an Aero kit if your forced into buying a new bumper ... its a way i would look at it, would never buy another OEM bumper but thats just me ... sorry i had my mom drive my mini one day and she came back with my cars first dent and horrible scratch ... i know this feeling.

I just want to add my rebuild information here. I took my broken front bumper cover to a shop, and they did a plastic weld repair on it for $125. Unfortunately (from a repair standpoint) my MCS is chili red, the most expensive color of paint. The pint of paint was $130, and my body man charged me $150 to put the paint on. The cost was cheap, because the guy is a friend of mine, and the repaired cover is half the price of new (Aero package bumper cover).
Two comments here. First, if your body man does the job right (sanding and good prep work) and you keep good wax on your paint, it will last for many years. Second, nothing about this type of body repair is cheap. It may seem simple, but you still pay a premium price for the body mans time.
That being said, do your homework and research the body shop you want to use. Look at their shop (is it clean and organized, or messy and sloppy) and then look at some of their work. Ask for references and look at the cars they are currently working on. Then, ask you insurance who they deal with. They don't like to pay for poor quality work either. And remember the cardinal rule of auto repair, "You get what you pay for"
