Oil Filter Question

My wife has a 2008 MCS. I do my own oil changes (every 5k, first one done a 1250 miles) except for a couple times when the dealer did it per the 3 yr maintenance plan. I've been getting my filters from one of the Mini vendors here on NAM. The part # is 11-42-7-557-012 and comes in a BMW box (factory filters). I was in the dealership the other day to by a case of oil and out of convenience I purchased a couple filters. The filter they gave me for a 2008 MCS is part # 11-42-7-622-446.

My question is did they give me the right filter for my car? Is there a different filter for a 2008 MCS and a 2008 MC (justa)? Best I can tell from doing a fair amount of searching is that the same filter filter is used for the 2007 and up (at least through 2008 - didn't matter to me if it went past 2008). The one they gave me looks like the ones I have used before. I don't have one of the 557-012s to compare it to.

Thanks in advance for you input,

Chris

Realoem.com is a great resource for answering questions like this.

Check out this link:
http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?...30&hg=11&fg=30

You'll see the 012s were manufactured up to 3/2011. The 446s are the new part # and will still work, because there is nothing listed in the "From" column. Sometimes MINI actually changes a part, in which case they would list the start date of the that change in the "from" column.

Mini has changed the part number on the oil filter. I had to verify this last time I bought a filter - I noticed the change in numbers. I called several dealers to verify that the part number was correct. Also, as gknorr points out, realoem is a great resource.

You might want to look at www.sewellparts.com & their mini dealership to look for the right part and at a reasonable price.
