Were any R56's pre-wired for OEM front fog lights?

I'm still on a quest to install front fog lights and have them wired to the toggle bank. I thought I read in some thread that some R56's were pre-wired for front fog lights. Is that true? Can anyone confirm and tell me what year or how I might check on my own car (i.e., is the headlight wiring any different?).

Also, is there coding in NCS Expert for enabling the front fog light toggle? Would it be Nebelscheinwerfer (fog light) as opposed to Nebelschlussleuchte (rear fog light)? If there's no pre-wiring, I'd be left with the daunting task of wiring into the existing harness/fuse box controlled by the computer . I know the easier route is to install them on a completely independent circuit like the driving lamps, but there's that one empty toggle...

Depends on the year if the wiring was there or not. 08 car (which i believe yours is) had wiring for just about everything. The one way to tell is by the connector on the "City (parking) Light housing. The difference between the two is the non Fog housing has one light and the Fog housing has fog at the bottom and City Light at the third.

So you would have to replace the fixtures and have it programed. But to be sure I would look at a car that has the fog lights and yours to see if the same wiring is there as on the fog light car.

Just an FYI thru out the years 07 to current there have been production errors and once in a while a few cars would come off the line missing something that all ohter cars had and even if it was not used. So the ONLY real way to know if you car has a specific item is to veryify it with a car that is known to have it.

If I'm not mistaken, the front fog lights son't use the toggle switchs belos the AC. They get a new dash trim part with the switch, just to the left of the steering wheel.

The rear fog lights use the toggles.

OOPS never mind, FOG LIGHTS not driving lights... Carry on, pay no attention to me...lol

Look in your owners manual for the fog / parking light changing instructions.
Examine the fog light bulb socket to see if the wires are present.
There is probably a relay or empty spot for a relay somewhere like in the fuse box?
My '10 Clubman was ordered with front fog but not rear. All the rear fog light wiring and bulb is present.

Would you happen to know if 2007s were wired for everything as well

My 2007 was prewired to the lights. The plugs were behind the foam behind the rear bumper. I just plugged in the lights then found the wires to the lights on the passengers side of the inside boot. Cut the wires and tapped the brake light signal. They act as running, brake and blinker lights.

Thanks, but we're talking about FRONT fog lights in this thread. Still not certain if any years were pre-wired for front fogs.

If Mini's are anything like BMWs they probably aren't prewired for fronts. the 128i/135i are all prewired for rears, but 135's don't have fronts, they aren't prewired for those.

I did a DIY install of oem front fogs on my 2010 and there certainly wasn't any pre-installed wiring. I use my Hella driving light switch to control them. With the switch in the ON position, I get fogs on low beams and driving lights on high beams.

Yeah, I'm not optimistic. I don't think I've heard of anyone who's found any wires hanging up there. Just random reports that '08s had a lot of extra wires.

I've found something strange on my 07 cooper s r56.

It gives a dash warning symbol when starting the engine (looks like a dipped headlight) that apparently means the fog lights are broken. When I went to change the front bulbs I found the wire but there was no light assembly on the back of the lens! There are running lights or whatever they are called - the dim ones just to make you visible but where the fog light assembly is meant to be on the lower half of the lens there is nothing.

Whats going on here?! Can I buy the rear assembly to fit on the lens?

If fell out, sometimes they separate from the housing? Do you have pics?

I take it back you are quite right - they are the 'position light' pictured. However I also have fog light wires and a button. I fitted bulbs and they work.

I guess the bumper was changed for a 'not quite right' one

Anyway, bulbs fitted and warning lights gone.. I'm happy for now.

Ok, that makes sense. I thought you had an issue with the lights themselves.
