Wired OBD2-to-Android

I was just reading another thread discussing use of the Torque app for Android, along with the KIWI OBD2/Bluetooth device, to stream engine performance data, read fault codes, etc.

Have any of you set up a similar system using a wired connection? Just curious... the KIWI hardware looks pretty slick, but costs $100. Seems that an OBD/mini USB cable would provide the same interface to an Android phone for a lot less expense.

Comments?

Thanks in advance,

Get Torque
http://torque-bhp.com/software/torqu...obd2-adapters/
and something similar to this,
http://www.cravenspeed.com/bluetooth-obdii-connector/
You can get them cheaper then this. Ebay and other places on the web.

Edit***
I saw where you were talking about Torque after I posted.

I've got a bluetooth scan tool that I bought from TomTop on ebay for $14.50 shipped. I use a dongle on my laptop or use Torque on an Android. Works great.

Thanks to the comments above... I just received a new Xitech OBDII-Bluetooth interface, and will be using it with Torque. I'm at work at the moment, and will probably spend my lunch break out playing in the car.

That said, I may also try to use a mini-laptop as well as my Android phone. Did you chaps use the software that came with your adapters (on mini-CD), or did you download something else?

Thanks!

Glad I stumbled upon this thread, I saw Torque in the Android marketplace and wondered if it was worth getting. $5 for an app and a few bucks for a cable beats paying for a new Scangauge II!

No kidding. This is definitely a neat alternative, and at a very reasonable price. The OBD/Bluetooth adapter was $21.09 from Amazon, and Torque was (as you know) $4.95. And it's Bluetooth, so you don't even need a cable. The original title of this thread may be misleading now... I was thinking "wired" at first, but eventually went wireless, and you can't change a thread title.

Which adapter did you pick up from Amazon for ~$20 and are you happy with it?

This is the one I ordered:

http://www.amazon.com/XITECH-BLUETOO...=5336118863-20

As for satisfaction, I just got it this morning and have only had time to get it paired, connected, and tested for a few minutes. So far, so good, but time will tell. The developer of the Torque app seems pretty adamant that anything less than the Kiwi device @ around $100 may not work satisfactorily, but Porthos, just above, pointed me to the one I bought. It's the second link in Post #3.

Got it. It's listed at twice the price so I thought you picked up a different one. Must have missed the sale Thanks
