R56 Ohlins suspension - Cost?
#3
Yeah, they have stuff out for the R56 now, I was just looking to see if someone got a good price on them.
Those were just for your front coil-overs correct? I am doing both front and rear.

I am hoping they are that cheap.

My experience with Ohlins has been extensive. I used them on my motorcycles for both street and track and hands down were the best option.
I don't look at "cost" as a factor when trying to put stuff on my car. I want it to:
1. Last
2. Be supported
3. Be of high quality
My girlfriend tried another "Comparable" setup on her BMW and while it was "ok" at best it still didn't have the same build quality as the Ohlins, didn't have the best support network for it and didn't have that "overall" feel I like about Ohlins. Hers were either far too stiff or too soft and neither of us were happy with them. Sold them on Ebay, bought Ohlins and a few days of tweaking here and there and we love it.

AST 4100 is close, but the real comparison would be the 5000 series, which are likely more expensive.
Most people don't run Ohlins on this car because they're a bit more expensive than they want to pay. Honestly, that's why I don't run them. I'd love to but just can't.
To the OP, I can check with an Ohlins dealer for you if you like.

Lifetime against what though? I highly doubt they are going to warranty a leak from wear and tear on a 5 year old purchase...perhaps if something major breaks but I don't see it happening. I had Ohlins front forks on bikes that lasted over 5 years without a rebuild under harsh conditions.
The Ohlins offer an overall great ride and great tuning ability. I've tried a lot of other things in the past and Ohlins seems to meet my demand for a smooth ride for an everyday driver and handling well when dialed in correctly for the track.

Well I guess to be fair the ASTs are offered through Vorshlag with their top mounts. They are sold separately so they could just as easily be put on the ohlins. The factory top mounts are just stamped sheet metal pieces with rubber bushings. The Vorshlags are laser cut plate with spherical bushings: http://www.vorshlag.com/product_info...roducts_id=481
They are just stronger, allow for less deflection/play in the system. Plus they are what provide camber adjustment in the front.

Ohlins are worth it. The quality of the damping is very, very good. I do also like AST and KW.
MSRP is $2839 for the Ohlins.

Agreed that Ohlins are not for most people simply because they're overkill and expensive, but there's still no reason to run crappy shocks. I run the best shocks I can afford (not including motorsports shocks), which sadly just means Koni Yellows.
Crappy shocks should be avoided by all means IMO. There is a big difference to feel even on the street.
