Heat Exchagner / Oil Filter Gaskets Replacement

Greetings All,

Cedric my R56 MCS has a bit of an oil leak, upon initial research and taking it to the dealer it has been determined that its the heat exchanger or oil filter gaskets depends on who you ask but same thing.

I ordered the gaskets and took an initial stab at it, but was not able to formulate a plan of attack.

Has anyone replaced these before? I would just take it to the dealer, but I wanted to do it myself considering that the dealer wanted to charge me $1100.

I'm not sure I understand the dealer's statement

is he saying the gasket for the filter mount housing? or hoses to the heat exchanger

this is one I'd ask to go to the garage and see what the BLEEP they are talking about

I think i did a poor job explaining, I believe this is the problem attached.

I traced the leak as best as I can and it does seem correct, I just don't know if its too big of a job for me to try and tackle.

I was hoping I'd have 1,000 people that would tell me that they've done it and the shortcut , guess I'll have to keep tackling it on my own lol

Sorry, when my heat exchanger went bad, the dealer fixed it under warranty. So I'm of no help. Yours is only the second ( besides my own) heat exchanger issue I've run across, so apparently a rare issue which probably explains the lack of responses. Good luck with the repairs. I'll be interested to hear how it turns out.

Thanks for the input, I did tons of research and could find nothing. I'm really not looking forward to handing over money to a mechanic, if I just could figure out a way to get to it no matter the work involved I could do it.

I took a stab at it and realized that the turbo is in the way, it would almost be easier to stab at it from the front remove bumper/radiator but I don't know how much work that would be.

Have you considered picking up a Bentley service manual? They can be had for a lot less than the labor's apparently going to cost you, and you'll be ahead of the game the next time you need to do some work. I don't have one just yet, but it's on my list for sure!
