manual gear indicator replacement

The plastic gear indicator that caps the **** of my shift stick broke off. It appears to have had 4 plastic tabs that snapped into the ****, holding it in place. One would assume this is easily replaced, but my dealer wanted to charge me $175! This is just the plastic cap that has the gear numbers/direction on it.

Can anyone recommend where to find this replacement piece online?

Not sure which you will need, but one of the two following parts:

25112753782 (chrome) -- $35
25112753781 (silver?) -- $30

It's the "Shift ****, plastic, with boot" so it's a little more than what you're looking, but that's the best I can find for you. There are others too (leather, wood).

$175 is insane. You can purchase a new **** and replace it yourself. A replacement cap is not available from MINI, only the entire ****. RealOEM (http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?...44&hg=25&fg=10) says the silver plastic **** is $29 (leather $59), wood and special editions ranging up to $160.

I had the same thing happen. I glued it back together and haven't had an issue since.

Yup, mine was like that when I bought mine. Four drops of super glue and it's still doing fine several months later.

For $175, I'd be looking into one of those sweet billet shifters.
