Weight reduction

I pretty much have my car where I want it finally as far as power and handling mods go so now I am looking to put the icing on the cake by doing a little weight reduction. The things I have in mind are the rear seat delete, rear wiper delete, and a lighter battery. My car has the sunroof option and I rarely use it so is there a way to remove the motors and such from that to lighten it up a bit?

I am looking to do reversible changes to the car only but any thoughts and suggestions are welcome.

I have read several other threads on weight reduction but did not see anything about removing the sunroof internals so this is what I am mainly concerned about.

Hmm get rid of the heavy stock wheels that minis come with if you havent all ready. That alone will make the biggest difference. I went from the 21-22lb stockers to a 15lb wheel. So lost 20+ lbs of rolling weight.. that makes a HUGE difference.

I have Tenzo-R type M 17x7 rims which are a few lbs lighter than stock. The carbon fiber bonnet and boot may be a little too much money at this point. And I don't know what it weighs but I am very curious. probably on the heavy side compared to some due to the sunroofs.

For comparison purposes, my car with only about 3-4 gallons of gas and no jack, weighed around 2,860.

I also have an auto which makes it a little bit heavier if I am not mistaken.

Quick and free weight savings:

Remove rear parcel shelf - few oz
Remove rear seats - several lbs
Remove toolkit - a few lbs
Keep the gas tank below 1/2 tank
Don't run with washer fluid in the tank

My '07 MCS weighed in at 2570 with 3/4 of a tank. No options at all not even cruise control and rear seat delete. That was years ago though I'd really like to weigh it again, should be lighter now depending which wheels I have mounted.

you have no heated seats and no sunroofs? Interesting results.

Any idea on back seat weight?

I have been looking at a rear seat delete, deleting the b/s dampening, etc.

Nice weight though man I am jealous.

Why is the weight reduction required? Are you tracking or auto-crossing? If not, what's really the point? Just asking.

Wooo, big savings on the rear wiper delete!!!

Any need for weight reduction on the driver? I know that's a good spot for me to shave some pounds off my car.

I only weight 135 lbs so I think the driver weight isn't an issue. Haha

I have started to do autocross about once a month and go to the track when I can so that's why I want some weight savings. Especially up high to lower the CG hence the sunroof question.

How are the seats in your car? Have any pics, cost, etc? I may consider swapping mine

Just FYI MFSW would net you like a 2 maybe 3 oz gain in weight. I have no options with a rear seat delete but I replaced speakers and added an amp but, also went with a light weight battery. I am going to weigh mine when I get a chance to see where I am at compared to you.

Remove the doors and all the glass. It's a lot lighter. Harder to smoke though.

Yea I was just exaggerating the point that it has literally no options so it should have come out of the box just about as light as a second gen can be.

I recall seeing carbon fiber inserts that replaced the glass sun roofs. Trying to find the link now...
