R56 Turbo Replacement
#2
That aside: your first step (assuming you've upgraded everything else first, and aren't assuming that Bigger Turbo is a good first mod - the turbo should actually be very low down the list in terms of price/performance) is the JCW turbo. It's just a plug and play replacement for the S turbo, and provides a small power boost.
Beyond that, you have to start looking into upgrading your engine block - which is a complex and expensive matter: the aftermarket parts just don't exist yet like they do for the R53. The N14 engine (even with the JCW tweaks) isn't all that resilient at higher boost levels, and aftermarket turbo projects are fraught with mechanical failures. That said, your basic options for turbo kits are the GT28RS and GT2871R. Just be aware that this isn't Plug-and-Play, and will be a complex project that you should be tackling with an experienced mechanic at your side.

This is really the wrong section of the forum to be asking this question. You would do much better if you searched in the Modifications section as this is an item that is common to all the 2nd Gen MINI's not just the R56.
And as an2 said there is a lot of info on this matter here you just need to search as this fourm also has a search before you post rule as well.

Depends what you mean by aftermarket?
If you have a MCS you can upgrade by fitting the JCW turbo. Or you can get your MCS one made into a hybrid one which changes size of the wheels inside usually by using one from the larger twin scroll turbos like are used in VAG cars.
Those are you main options unless you go to a different turbo manufacturer then have to fabricate manifolds etc to fit.
Drivetrain modifications area is the one to look in for this info....

Thanks for all the info! I was looking at a 2007 MCS and was trying to find an affordable replacement turbo, not looking for extra performance. It has been my experience with other vehicles, that I can find better quality/cost effective parts from someone other than the dealer. So, I am still looking for a Minni and will probably be back with more questions. Once again, thanks for the info.
