Brake dust, amazing, it gets the car dirty!

I used various ceramic pads on my 2003 so I forgot about the OEM pads and brake dust. My 2012 dusts so bad that the sides of the cars get dirty with it. My 2003 had the black plastic side skirts and the painted skirts really show all the dust that collects. Guess I will have to live with it for 3 years until the maintenance warranty is up...

Do they dust worse when new?

When I still had OEM brakes I never thought the OEM pads were that bad. They do bite well but they all spew brake dust. I can remember getting ready for a MINI event literally 2 miles away from my house and having my wheels spic and span. When we arrived there was already a visible film of black dust LOL!

In other words... time to upgrade to some low dust pads!

Bless you for putting up with that for 3 years over $100 worth of free pads. You'll spend $100 in washes and wheel cleaner in that time.

My 07 gets brake dust everywhere... all over the sides and boot, although you don't notice it much until you rub against it or it rains.

I use the eagle one clean wheel protector and it works good for about a week. Then I start to get black shades in areas. Someday I will just install new pads.

I've been very very surprised as to how much brake dust the OEM brakes produce on my newly acquired MCS 2010. Stock pads on JCW slotted rotors. In two days of commuting the wheels are noticeably dirty, and I'm kind of a perfection freak so I have to clean the wheels on a 2-3 days basis and that kind of sucks...

Well, the real "fix" requires using different brake pads. But in lieu of that (or in addition to it) use Sonax Full Effect wheel cleaner, which is magical, though a little costly, and only available on-line. And use Armor All Wheel Protectant, which you can get at most any car parts store. All three together have solved the brake dust problem for me (I clean mine about every other month.) But if you stick with the OEM pads, the two chemical products will definitely help.
