Colt,

The real answer is: neither. The most damage occurs at initial start-up, when there is no oil in the top end. When you start it up, it takes anywhere from 30 seconds to about 2 minutes for the oil to completely saturate the top end. You will notice the idle drop and stabilize. That is when you should drive off, but take it easy until you have some temperature in the oil and coolant.
