Is this normal?

Just picked up my MINI the other day and noticed something when I got home that didn't seem normal, but it may be.

There is a rather large area cut out of the carpet around the steering 'shaft' (see pic).

Was curious if the carpet is cut like this in all the MINIs.

Thanks in advance for your input.

Normal. It's so the stub on the power steering motor can poke through when they're raising the front sub-frame into the vehicle during assembly. Don't worry, there is a large foam sealing surface between the floor and steering motor.
