MCS 08 Removing Intake VANOS Unit Fastening Bolt

I am attempting timing chain work on my girlfriends 2008 S (N14).
My trouble is removing the intake VANOS unit fastening bolt. I've put a good amount of torque on it with a breaker bar and a E14 socket but it hasn't moved. It is very tight there.

Will moving the front to service position help. Do I need to get a pneumatic tool in there? If so, how? Should I apply some heat to loosen it? I really don't want to strip the top off that E14 bolt.

Thanks,
Pudgies Mechanic

Invest in a Bentley manual. Also be really careful with the Vanos those are not cheap if the break. Also don't throw the timing off because you will screw all kinds of stuff up.

The inlet bolt has a lot of torque on it. 180 degrees of angle tightening so it's going to be a little of a fight. Do you have a friend to help hold the camshaft with a wrench while you try and remove the bolt?

I have the cam locking tool so camshaft movement is not a problem. I will get a good angle and wrench that bolt off. Part of getting a good angle is removing the engine mount bracket that is getting in the way. According to the Bentley that should only take removing 4 bolts.

Those E-sockets can be a pain. We're starting to use them a lot on the engines at work and you can wreck the bolt heads if you're not careful. Just make sure the cam is locked and you've got the socket nice and square on the bolt and it'll come right off if you've been doin' your bicep curls
