Should there be a hose here ?

I installed a K&N air filter today. This is what I found before removing the old filter. The car has always been worked on by the dealer. Is there a hose missing???

Before you take it in, have another look at that nipple - does it have a hole in it, or is it plugged? I ask because my car looks similar to yours, and on my 2011 the nipple does not have a hole in it. I think this is one of the differences on the N18 engine that came in 2011+ S models.

Post a pic of your engine bay. I could be wrong.

The one clear shot I've got that shows the nipple I mentioned appears in this post on another thread, and for some reason I can't attach it again here:

Well ask the service manager. That should solve the mystery. Or maybe someone else on here will know.

My 2012 MCS has a hose there as shown in post #3. Difference between what the image shows and our engines ought to be only the cover over the plugs etc on the 11+ engines.

Also, in post 7, he seems to have a catch can installed - that might be his reason for deleting the hose...

OK - the nipple has no hole in it.
Strange that they would do that.

Summons - The oil catch can installation is when I discovered the nipple with no hole.

I'm guessing that this is a remnant of the changed PCV plumbing on 2011 models.

Actually it's a part of what's to come... all 2012/2013 US models have a hose there which routes thru the clip attached to the air filter box. The hose attaches to a fitting on the block below the intake manifold.

I still doubt it is to be a open whole. They would have plugged it.
