Does anyone have the optional OEM chrome tip exhaust for "Non S" Mini's?

Is this just for looks or does it change the exhaust tone as they claim? Is there a performance enhancement?

There is a chrome tip on mine, it came with the car when I bought it.

 

Both my 2008 and 2012 have chrome tips. The 2008 has a lower exhaust note to it than my 2012. Mini USA has another posted for base Mini's as an alternative and it says that it lowers the note. For $100.00 I would want to know if truly it accomplishes anything. If not why would they offer it? Anybody? Thanks.

 

I can almost guarantee there is no performance benefit. Even a catback exhaust system offers only a marginal gain, a tip isn't going to do anything but change the sound a little.

 

I asked about it when I ordered my car and my sales lady told me flat out its a waste of money and she wished they would stop offering them.
