Ah EDIT: I meant 2012, not 2011. Different part numbers :/

Backstory: I saw an almost brand new turbo on ebay for a 2012 MCS (said it'd fit a 2011 as well) and was wondering if it'd fit.

It doesn't.

No...not yet at least. I just picked up an 09 MCS with 60K on it and I'm trying to figure out what needs to be done to get it as closed to 'new' as possible. It's already got a dealer installed new engine. Not sure how 'new' it is or how many miles are on it but my garage said it looked pretty damn new.

I've been surfing the hell out of this forum and I've gathered the upcoming definite replacements are:

1) Thermostat
2) HPFP
3) Turbo Oil Line

And so I figure if I'm going to do the Turbo Oil line...I might as well try and find a newer turbo too. I just came across a "Borg Warner" Hi perf turbocharger...2 grand though...I dunno about all that. I need to remind myself that this mini is my secondary commuter vehicle...after my motorcycle. It's there in case the weather looks like it's getting choppy

Damn 'mod bug'...

I dunno...your thoughts?

Some items are good till they break....
no guarantee a replacemnt is anybetter (could be worse off of e-bay) than what you have.....
Sure, some parts MAY be updated....but many of those earlier parts DID last folks a long time....so unless you have $$ to burn or a reason to suspect an issue, just save the $$ till you need it...
Parts changing one oem part to another is part swapping or fixing....modding is modifying to something other than stock..

haha, thanks, I'm well aware of the gambles of modding/swapping/ebay but I do appreciate the heads up. Also, thanks for the clear distinction between 'modding' and 'swapping/fixing'. I will ensure I don't mix those two terms up ever again! lol!

What can I say, I guess I'm just a pro active kinda guy. It's no longer an issue of what's going to happen...I know what's going to go wrong from the insane amount of identical issues/problems everyone's having. It's a matter of when...and I'm just trying to beat the Mini to the punch!

With 60k on the clock...I'm about due for every single issue and problem mentioned in this forum!! lol! what in the hell did I get myself into??

But G'damn this thing is fun to drive...I almost enjoy it as much as my motorcycle.

It's amazing how many individuals will buy a used car and need to "make it like new" by replacing working items. If it had 180,000 miles on it sure, but 60,000....?

For every 1 mini on these forums that has some reported problem there are hundreds, mabey even thousands, that don't. The online mini community is small compared to how many are oil there.

Yup...
and a thought....because half the folks that ever had a hpfp of thermostst issue googled it, and ended up here, does not mean that EVERY mini of that year had that issue....just a bunch of folks, many came here and liked it. It is ok to be a bit obsessive with your mini, but just keep an eye on things under the hood, know different symptoms, and fix stuff when they fail.
I, for one, have a gen1....if i fixed all common issues before they happened, i would never have known i have a very relilable car....

Yeah, I can totally agree, perhaps I am being a bit paranoid. 60K really isn't THAT much. Appreciate the opininons Gents!

hahahha! nice! My wave has finally been returned.

Also, I will try to wave more cool-like as depicted in that picture. I'm full on flapping my arm outside the window like a g'damn noob.
