Any openings between windshield & dash?

I'm looking for a place to route the power cable to my radar detector. While I've seen other threads on this, they usually involve mounting the detector high up in the rearview mirror area. I prefer mine to be very low in the lower-left corner of the windshield. I have used a stiff wire to gently poke across the entire bottom of the windshield where it meets the dashboard, but it seems to be sealed tight & I'm afraid to push too hard. Has anyone routed any wires through that area and, if so, can you give me an idea of where they can be safely pushed through?

Route it through the pillar and then attach it from there

Remove the whole topside of the dash and you'll know right away!

If you have a Valentine V1 it needs to be mounted high to be effective, especially for the rearward radar detection.

That's exactly what I want to avoid doing. :-)

I thought I would try that if I couldn't find a better route.

This is really the best and easiest place to mount your radar detector. I am not mechanically inclined and I did this in my garage 1 hour after picking up my MINI from the dealership.

This may help you too.

Thanks!

Pic #1: Is your detector battery powered, or did you run wires to the overhead light console?

Pic #2: Yikes! What happened there?

Pic #1 - Its a Valentine V1 and its hardwired to the overhead light console. There is a huge thread on here that explains how to do it.

See the crack in the windshield?

Pic #2 - The windshield is being replaced. I'm on my 3rd. More likely than not you will need to have your windshield replaced at some time during the life of your car.

I do remember seeing the thread somewhere. Really didn't want to hardwire it, but it is the most elegant solution.

Man, I hope I have better luck with my windshield than that!
