Liqui Moly

Has anyone heard of or used this oil? and if so is it a good choice to use in my mini? i have a 07 r56 MCS. the local shop i take my car to changes oil with this for 50$ and they say it is one of the best oils to use. they said its from germany and designed for german cars. they are a good shop and have done good work for me in the past and i trust them but i had never heard of this oil. I usually change my own oil with redline 5w30 and it cost me about 60$ so this could save me some money and work not having to do it myself.

I have used it before its good stuff as long as you get there better stuff I prefer the longtime high tech. When it comes to oil always ask if it has a BMW long life rating of at least 4.

awesome ill ask them that when i get it done. they are a bmw/mini speacilst shop so im assuming the oil meets that spec but i'll verify. i just wanted to make sure the quality is good. i only go 5-6 thousand miles on a oil change so i dont abuse it but still. thank you!

What you want is BMW LL-01, and it'll be fine for 5-6k oci's.

I'm just wanting to know about liqui moly right now. i already know of a bunch of oils that meet my car's spec. Im considering having my oil changed at a shop i frequent instead of doing it myself. the shop uses liqui moly, a oil that they swear by and say is excellent for my car but one that i have not heard of. So i want to know if it is in fact a good oil.

BMW LL-01 is the "spec" or "rating" for the oil. There is a Liqui Moly that meets that spec. You want LL-01, not LL-04.

I've run it in the past in both my BMWs and my R56. But since I no longer work for bavauto I've been using either Mobil 1 or MINI 5w30. But it's good stuff.

Sorry did you mean there is not a liqui moly that meets that spec? i was under the impression it was LL-04 for the mini's thats what the owners manual says. The shop I am refering to in this post is a bmw/mini speaclist so i can'y imagine they would use an oil that does not meet the mini spec.

I've used the LL-01 in my Z-4, it is OK, there are better oils though. Also, LL-04 is not "better", it's different.

From BMW:

5) Longlife-04 oils are only approved for spark-ignition engines in Europe (EU plus Switzerland, Norway
and Liechtenstein). They must not be used outside this area.

LL-1 oils are for high sulfur content fuels - as in USA fuels.

LL-4 oil is for low sulfur content fuels - as in Germany/Europe fuels

according to BMW, LL-04 is NOT compatible with US gas and is not to be used

LL-01 is the correct rating for the US

okay regardless i have been using redline 5w30 since i have owned the car. im not really concered with what spec my car takes as i have been using the proper oil anyway and only planned to change that because i was considering having the shop i take my car to change my oil instead of doing it myself. I posted this thread to find out about Liqui moly oil. I just want to hear from anyone in the mini community who has used this oil and what their opinions on it were. thank you mikeyb74 as your pretty much the only one who has given my anyting on liqui moly oil instead of what spec my car takes.

I figured as much...........not that using LL-04 will cause your engine to explode, but I figured it was LL-01. I don't have an "S" so I wasn't sure if there was something special about that model with the turbo. Liqui Moly is OK. It gets the job done. The one you want is "Synthoil Longtime Plus".

Nothing wrong with liqui molly LL 1 is the requirement but the dealers now carry and use LL 4 because it is a newer spec.

thanks i'll check that out. i wasnt trying to be rude, i just really wanted to know about liqui moly and it seemed that the thread was going into a full on spec conversation. i went to mini.com and LL-01 is the correct spec. like i said i have always used redline 5w30 so i wasnt worried that i was using the wrong oil spec. I was just considering switching to liqui moly sine that was the oil the shop i go to uses. thank you for the help.

No hard feelings- the fact that it meets LL-01 tells you that it is good enough.

RE: Liqui Moly in my 2010 Clubman S (N14)

This probably isn't too much help, but I am a big fan of the LiquiMoly products. My mini has run it twice consecutively and I felt as though it made the car run very smoothly - moreso than the Castrol that was being put in. This was however during the period in which my mom was the cars daily driver. I did an OC prior to driving the Mini on an unplanned college adventure that led me from Indiana to Savannah, GA all the way down to Key West, back up and over to Panama City Beach for the spring break girls, then to New Orleans. From New Orleans back to Indy, with the mini fully loaded with various vacation supplies, me driving (at 6'10 235) and a friend in the pass. seat (at 6'3 185), we - well me, in my infinite wisdom - stumped upon a Lexus moving at a high rate of speed. Mini newly and temporarily equipped with the AntiLaser Priority, we ended up doing 120+ mph for every bit of 175 miles.

Being no stranger to triple digits in mom's Mini (🤦🏼*♂️ I'm a terrible person, ik) i had never felt the car run so smoothly. There were MANY different variables here's given I was way south out of the cars normal Indiana climate, but maaaaan she ran like a scolded dog.

Upon return, I'll dropped the oil and replaced it with another OC of the LiquiMoly. Mom specifically asked what I had done as she "felt it was running smoother." - Car was switched back to Castrol thanks to the local OC shop.

Mini is now mine after the parental unit tried to trade it in at 105k for a "broken flywheel". Bought it for $500, rebuilt it all. (This was 6 weeks ago) I just ordered LM to put in it when I do my OC on Friday before driving it from Indiana to Portland, OR.

That's all I have for input - my very unscientific testing of LiquiMoly. I will however report back after the drive to Portland on it's new blood.
