R56 how hot?

The computer will do what it has to to prevent detonation etc with high intake temps... I have seen 60C once or twice in traffic on a hot day - downtown after a few breaks in traffic followed by long waits. Accel hard, then no flow over the FMIC to get the temps down as I sat at the next light. Repeat a few times and it can get very hot in there!
It's good to keep an eye on it and adjust your driving to reduce boost (compressing air heats it up) and keep the air moving over the FMIC if possible. You'll see the temps drop relatively quickly...

The larger intercooler definitely helps, but you'll never get lower than ambient. After installing the Aquamist HFS-3 and injecting methanol, I never have to worry about high IAT's again. If you're going to get a tune and increase boost, I seriously suggest you look into water/meth injection. It increases your octane and suppresses carbon build-up on the intake valves as well. It really is money well spent.
This was taken in the winter time, and you can see the big drop in IAT's. I should do another datalog now that we're finally seeing some heat here.

One caveat, though. Meth kits are technical and a little niggly. The Howerton kit is engineered second to none, with a beautiful tank bracket, and fully developed engine management integration. It does add a layer of complexity: you have to install it carefully and stay on top of it. You can't let it run dry. It's best for the technical enthusiast who likes to stay focused on their car. For those who just want to 'set it and forget it', the benefit might not outweigh the effort.
