Passenger seat belt warning

Need some advice, have a 09 mini cooper S and recently the passenger seat belt warning light comes on and stays on with or without someone in the seat. Very annoying. Warning stays on the dash and I can't see the digital speed. Does anyone know how to bypass this warning?

need to have your butt sensor replaced most likely.

You can also disable it entirely by reprogramming your car but that is potentially dangerous if ever there is a kid in that seat.

Alternatively, leave the passenger seat belt buckled.

The warning is on even if the seat belt is fastened, with or without someone in the seat. It is on all the time no matter what. I tried unhooking the harness to the seat but same results.

Then something else isn't right. Clicking the seat belt into the buckle should end the warning. Perhaps a fuse...

I don't think it is a fuse. It will stay like this for several days and finally turn off, but as soon as someone sits in it again I am back to the same problem.

The seat belt warning light is on the speedometer. If you are talking about the "PASS AIR BAG OFF" warning light up near the rear view mirror, it is not for the seat belt. The problem would be the sensor mat in the passenger seat. It is a common problem that has affected many owners and unfortunately very expensive to repair (if not under warranty).
