Going Out Of Warranty with a Vengance
Hi,
My mini warranty is expiring in two weeks and I'm not going to get the extended warranty.
My car has 25k miles with no problems. Do you guys have any ideas for something preventive that the Mini Service can take care of before the warranty expires?

I would just take it in and have them give the car a thorough walk around and inspection, and anything that is leaking or looks work, have it replaced (minus maintenance stuff like brake pads and rotors). Otherwise they're going to tell you that it has to fail in order for it to be replaced under warranty, like they told me when I asked for the HPFP to be replaced.

Just curious if you have priced the cost of extending the warranty or no? Since you are under coverage now, the price is reasonable compared to getting a 3rd party warranty after the fact.
It doesn't take much to spend more in repairs on your own than if it is covered. Of course the decision is yours in the end.
Mine is not under warranty, but this year the turbo failed. Dealer cost for that was approx $4000 with parts and labor. I did it myself for about $1500 plus some freebie spares from my friends. Not trying to say that the turbo would have been a covered event under warranty, but if it had that may have been a expense well worth getting.
I agree about getting it checked out to know what the current state is.

How is it worth it? You are still ahead because you only spent $1500 so far and the warranty is probably twice that. The reason warranties exist is because the majority of the time repairs are not needed. Warranties are designed to make money for the company selling the warranty and they generally do. People who need lots of repairs are not the norm, it just sucks when it happens to you.

I would have them verify that the timing chain tensioner is good and not leaking, hood scoop is not warped, turbo oil lines not leaking. Any other oil leaks on the engine, maybe have them check carbon buildup (it will cost you to get it cleaned, but maybe they might help you more if you are willing to pay for that).
Have fun,
Mike
